I have recently gotten a new kitten from a lady saying she couldn't keep it any longer. She said he is about 6 weeks old, weaned from his mother, and is on dry kitten food soaked in water.

I have read around that soaking dry food is no good for kittens and I don't know if I should switch his food now or continue on with it. I have also started giving him small amounts of kmr, but he now has loose stool. Should I stop giving it to him?

I plan on a vet trip Monday but I'm worried I'm not doing the right thing to keep him healthy. Any suggestions would be wonderful, I can't give him back and i don't want to give up on him.

His system may need to adjust to the KMR. Are you using the powdered or the pre-mixed?

You should also give him pate-style wet food. Fancy Feast Classics is a good one to try.

We'd love to see a picture!

I am using the powered, I wasn't able to find pre-mixed.

Should I wait until he is fine with the KMR to switch to wet food or start that immediately?

What a cutie! :lovecat2:

Powdered is much better than pre-mixed.

You can go ahead and try wet food. He can have wet food, KMR, and dry food.

What color is the diarrhea?

He is a delight, very playful and friendly.

It's an orange, tan color. I believe it started jus today but he is still eating and drinking fine.

Orange is indicative of coccidia, which is a parasite. He will need Albon to treat it. Can you see a vet before Monday?

I may be able to. My boyfriend is the only one with a car at the moment so it depends on his work schedule.

It would be better to get treatment started quickly for the diarrhea if you can. :)
