My cat has some issues, but I noticed an increase in jaundice after Hound & Gatos and Tiki cat cat food. I am not sure if coincidence or if there is an issue with the cat food. I searched around the internet for recalls or comments of others noticing this, but didn't find anything. Just checking to see if anyone e else noticed this happening?

Hi
May I ask, what's happening with him? Does his skin get yellow, such as his ears and the whites of his eyes become yellow?

Yes, she seems to get more jaundiced after eating this food but it could be coincidence... Just seeing if anyone else encountered this.

Is there any history of liver issues previously, such as liver numbers on a blood test?

Yes, but it got much worse after this food. I stopped the food, her liver enzymes were going back to normal over six week period, gave her another can of this food, and she suddenly has high liver enzymes and more jaundiced again.

Dietary changes and nutritional deficiencies can affect the liver, but that may not be the bottom line answer. I would not feed the foods that seems to cause this and return to whatever agreed with your cat. There does not need to be anything wrong with the food that you were serving for this to happen, but looking for recalls was a good idea. How old is your cat and what liver conditions have been noted? Does your vet know that this happens? It would be a good idea to let him know in case there is something which needs to be investigated to make sure that it is not coincidental, but not caused, by the food.

My cat first showed elevated liver enzymes in 2020 and no veterinarian has given me a diagnoses..I even took her to specialists...she recently had an ultra sound and report said ongoing liver disease but no diagnosis.

I do get that as you can chase liver disease around without a conclusive diagnosis. If she were my cat, I would feed the food that did not cause the jaundice, but might also have new bloodwork done (depending on when you had the last done) to see if anything has changed.

She is 19.5 years old. In 2019, she started vomiting every once in a while, her liver enzymes were very mildly elevated. In 2020, she had an ultrasound and all they said was that the liver looks brighter on ultrasound but not sure why. Her liver enzymes were slightly elevated but stable. In May 2022, she developed a moveable lump on her jawline out of no where, took her to vet, they said they don't know what it is but it moves, weren't concerned. In July 2022, she suddenly could not jump like she used to onto her favorite cat tower. In August 2022, she started losing weight, pickier with her food, She developed even more problems going up stairs, was hopping up stairs like a rabbit, her hind kegs seemed weak out of nowhere, more vomiting of bile. Admitted her a few days to hospital for testing. Liver enzymes much more elevated, some jaundice noticeable in ear, another ultrasound, again, no diagnosis, just liver abnormalities. Someone gave her a can of food when all this started, I sometimes wonder if she had botulism or could be coincidence. They said her hind leg issues were from arthritis....but would arthritis come on like that all of a sudden where she has to hop and pull herself up the stairs because hind legs aren't strong enough? They also saw she was a little hemaletic enemic but no one told me this, I had to ask for blood work. RDW showed different sized blood cells. I asked for a tick panel which showed California variety of Mycoplasma blood parasite but they weren't concerned because not a virulent strain but can cause issues in weak cats. Then they diagnosed her with lymphoma from spleen biopsy. The ultrasound showed swelling of spleen. Biopsy liver was normal. She is getting elapse and cytoxan.

I'm with you, I don't believe arthritis comes on suddenly :(

I'm thinking out loud here, but is your vet a cat-only clinic?

You certainly have done a great job of helping your cat to reach advanced age. You have tried to stay on top of all of this and have had more than one opinion.

IMO, the hind end weakness which includes rabbit hopping does not sound like arthritis. Rabbit hopping is often seen in animals who are experiencing a neurological problem from one cause or another. Fiona herself became arthritic in her old age, but the only thing she could not do was jump up on cat trees or chairs. No dragging or hopping.

If she is on cytoxan, you must be getting regular monitoring done by the vet. You could ask your vet to contact a teaching hospital on your behalf, even one that is not local. Was the specialist you saw an oncologist?

Yes, since they said they found lymphoma in her spleen aspirate, we took her to an oncologist and she is getting chemo for lymphoma.

I am not convinced she has lymphoma.

I think the chemo is making her liver worse, thinking of stopping the chemo

You get to a point, especially with an older and ill cat, where you feel as if you are painted into a corner and none of the options are great. Is going to another vet an option, even for another opinion? I think that you should discuss your plans with one of the vets that you have seen if you want to stop the chemo. FNA's can have false negatives and positives, so if you are suspicious that it is not lymphoma talk to the vet who made the decision about the treatment.
