hey guys. I have 1 years old persian cat. A week ago I noticed something weird near.
His ear. So i made an appointment with the vet. In two days, the day i hade to take him to the vet it looked completely different

He said it was a minor infection and gave me prescription. klorheksidin For cleansing the skin, solcoseryl jelly 10 % and after ten minutes some ointment that is anti inflammatory/anti fungus that he gave me.(3-4 times a day. I do it 4 times)
Its been 4 days and I don’t think it’s getting any better. Sent him new pictures and he told me to continue with the prescription. I think that the affected area has gotten bigger. This is what it looks like now

Do you guys think it could be ringwarm? I asked the doctor if it looks like it could be fungus but ge said no. I checked his whole body and no other bald patches. His claws look fine too. I also have to mention that i recently switched him to dry food from mostly wet food/meat. Maybe its food allergies? Please if it looks familiar to anyone could you share your experience? I have another kitten at home and she looks fine. I have been snuggling the infeced one and I’ve been using my finger to apply the ointments. So if it’s ringworm I’m probably getting affected too, right? No one else seems to have any infection other than my baby kitty. Sorry for the long post.

If it’s ringworm, is is supposed to be very itchy? He doesn’t seem to itch that area any more than the rest of his body. I’m going to take him for the test tomorrow but i know it takes time and i really dont want to waste it

Hi! Do you have a different vet you could speak with? Your current one doesn't seem to be providing you with a lot of confidence...
Or a skin specialist? Do you have a university veterinary department you could contact?

I disagree. Ringworm can really fool you, especially if the cat goes into scratch mode. But if you don't have ringworm, that's probably not what it is. Did the vet do any sort of culture or look at a skin scraping under the microscope?

When did the spot appear in relation to the food change? He may be allergic to something in the new food. Are you sure he's not scratching that area? It looks like he's scratched the skin off.

Good luck with his next vet visit and please keep us updated.

There are lots of vet clinics in my are but the vet i took him to is the most trusted one. I have taken my other cats to him and only had positive experiences. I have had cats my whole life and never seen anything like this so I’m really confused and scared for my kitty

No nothing like that. He just looked. No microscope or culturing. I’m going to ask for that tomorrow.
I changed his food 10 days ago and he got the initial spots 5-6 days ago. I used to feed him meat with Acana dry food and wet food only and Now he’s on Pro Plan. He hates Acana alone. I’m going to bring him back ti the previous diet. Maybe there is too much grains in Pro Plan. He’s not used to that.

Took him to another clinic today. Vet asked for old pictures and he said it looks better. He said if we do culturing today the result will be false. Cos i have been applying creams on him. He said finish the course which is 10 days and if it doesn’t help wait 3 days and bring him back. So that there is no residue on his skin. I actually think it looks a bit better. He checked his claws and body and found nothing.
Thanks fir your support.

That doesn't look like ringworm to me. Looks like pyoderma. He may need antibiotics, if the topicals don't clear it up. I agree with the vet; do the full treatment and see how it's healing. If it's still gross the vet will have to figure something else out.

But, yeah, skin issues do have a habit of looking terrible while they're healing!

Guys, came back for the update. His hair has almost grown completely. We ended up finishing the the original treatment and by the time we were done,he was doing much better, so I didn’t take him for the test.( too much stress for him, he peed himself twice at the vet’s) so still no idea what he had. But he’s fine now. I’m so happy and thank you for the support. His hair around the affected area is yellow because that’s the color of the cream we were using on him.
