Extra space is definitely nice for cats. I have taken Lindsey (an eight year old Maine Coon who I "adopted" from an interstate rest area where she had been abandoned) to extended stay hotels where she was cooped up in a 300 sq ft suite with me, and observed her behavior there as well as in the 2800 sq ft house where we live. There is no question that she benefits from the extra space. She probably runs up and down the stairs twenty times each day -- obviously not possible in an apartment or hotel room -- and that exercise has got to be good for her. In hotel rooms, she tried to run around and play, but literally crashed into walls and furniture whenever she got up some speed (chasing a toy, or just her own imagination).
