Lost Cats

Hello friends,

What happens to cats who are lost. Like cats who lost their way home or run away from the vet's office. Do they keep searching for their homes until they die? a territory is very important to a cat. Can a lost cat make a new territory if he fails to find his old one?

A lost cat will try to find home or safety. I think it depends on the cats in question. I know one of our members had cats taken from their feral colony and dumped in the woods a few miles away. Many of the cats managed to find their way back. I would think a cat comfortable with being outside would be confident enough to try to find home. A cat who is not familiar with the outside might be too scared and focus more on finding a safe spot.

A cat can establish a new territory and survive after being lost. But again it depends on the indvidual on how successful they would be.

And some cats seem to have an inborn ability to find "home." Cats have been known to travel many miles over months to get back to their homes.
