We just took in 2 abandoned kittens. I’ve never had kittens this young, but after looking at some guides online I think they’re about 5 weeks. What sort of things should we be doing to properly socialize them? I’ve had cats before, but my youngest boy is 11 now and it’s been years since I’ve had a kitten so I’m afraid I’m going to forget something important. I know to touch their paws and ears, trim their claws, get them used to being brushed…what else am I missing? We’re moving soon and plan to get a dog, should I try to expose them to dogs now while they’re quite young?

Hi . you could definitely do that, although maybe wait just a little bit, so they've grown more and their immune systems are a little stronger, maybe about the time they would have been weaned.

You did not necessarily say that these kittens appear to be feral, or are acting as if they are, but there are some good pointers here. I agree that you want to be careful about what you expose them to at such a young age.

I would not introduce tiny kittens to a dog until you know the dog’s temperament and until the kittens are older. In fact, waiting to get a dog until the kittens are several months old, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered would be best.
