hello, i am new on this forum and after hours and hours of research everywhere i cant seem to find out what it means that my cat (diagnosed with GI lympoma she has a thickened stomach lining and a mass spotted on ultrasound and endoscopy) has vomited up what looks like a small fleshy piece along with some old looking blood. this is the second times it has happend and the first time i even brought it to the vet with me and he was confused what it could be (which i found strange) its definately fleshy and im guessing its part of her mass? if anybody has heard of this please fill me in with some information i am very concerned. thank you!

Hi. If your vet couldn’t help you, I think it’s time for a specialist. I have never heard of a cat vomiting up parts of a tumor. Usually with intestinal lymphoma the tumor will be in the GI tract, not the stomach. So vomiting it would be impossible.
If your cat is vomiting blood or anything that looks like a tumor, they need to be seen by a vet right away, even if that means going to an emergency hospital.

she was seen by the surgeon/oncologist at the vet and he also wasnt quite positive what it could be. he did kind of brush it off as saying maybe its part of her mass as he also didnt sound very sure of it since he did not get to see the sample i brought. on the endoscopy he did say the mass he saw was below the esophagus in her stomach and had a small blood clot on top of it. she has thrown up this white piece twice now the first was at the beginning of this journey about a month ago and she doesnt seem to feel very well for about 24 hours following both times times she managed to get it up and out.

she started prednisolone 7 days ago on a high dose of 1ML liquid and was scheduled for 10 days on that dose but it seems to make her nauseous and made her vomit a few times before the vomit with the white fleshy piece. so now im not sure if the pred is too rough on her because before we started it she did not vomit at all for a good 2 weeks or so

So glad kitty is seeing a specialist and so very sorry you are both going through this.

Are they treating her with anything but the prednisolone and out of curiosity - what is the dose per 1ml?

we discussed full chemo treatment but decided against it it just seemed like to much for her. so the oncologist prescribed the prednisolone at 1ml per day for 10 days than cut in half indefinitely. she was taking sucralfate for an ulceration and that med seemed to give her more relief than anything and kept her from vomiting. she did well not vomiting until we started the pred (without the sucralfate) than she began vomiting again about once per day for the seven days we have administered her shot

i started it again this morning after she vomited a larger piece. i felt so bad grabbing her and giving it to her but it should make her feel better. i hope.
its just so strange that nobody has seen this before

Was the endoscopy only to see what was in her stomach or was there an attempt to remove any pieces of the mass?

hi. they did the endoscopy after an ultrasound showed slight thickening of her stomach lining and what looked like a mass in there. biopsy results took a week and were inconclusive... they assumed med-high grade lymphoma based on a quick sample under a slide before the biopsy was sent off. its just strange to me how i cant seem to find any other examples of this happening 😒

I can't either, not even in human GI material. There are very rare cases, in humans, of a colon polyp coming out spontaneously but that is very far afield from anything that will help you right now. I was just wondering if the endoscopic biopsy, depending on how it was done, might have scraped or cut something that resulted in these pieces coming out.

thank you so much for taking a look at this fionasmom i appreciate it! unfotunately she had vomited up the first piece about a month ago so it was about two weeks prior to the endoscopy so that rules that out. the only thing i can think of is the location of her mass (which is reported as being right below her esophagus) is maybe just a one in a million spot that allows this to happen? maybe her wretching while vomiting makes it tear? i just dont know and its killing me not having an answer :(

That is probably as good an explanation as any. The human study I mentioned was of a man who had lots of GI issues which culminated in the expulsion of the piece of the polyp spontaneously.

Can they send the pieces she is vomiting to the lab to see what those are? I know first time was inconclusive, but maybe this time they will find something.
