Water additives are useless, IMO. Most cats don't drink enough water from a bowl to meet their needs and those who eat only canned food may never drink from a bowl. The few times a cat will drink from a bowl, the additive will stick to the teeth temporarily until saliva and food removes it from the teeth.

Any cat will develop gingivitis and other issues from lack of dental hygiene. Brushing the teeth is best as it scrubs off food particles and plaque, just like daily tooth brushing cleans your teeth. Use only pet toothpaste on your cat's teeth. Pet stores sell toothpastes in a variety of flavors like chicken and seafood.

Ask your vet to check your cats' teeth and determine if a dental cleaning is needed. If your vet doesn't have a clue about dental health, and many vets unfortunately don't, look for a veterinary dental specialist.

Feline Greenies don't work to clean teeth. They're too small and most cats just swallow them whole or after one crunch. CET used to make large dental chews but I think it's been discontinued although you may be able to find some online like at Amazon.

Thank you for answering my thread.I think my boy is also related to stress or other problems. Both of them is indoor cat .The older cat i think is prone to stress too because i don't let them go outside .How other cat parents handle their indoor baby not having stress?Of course cat has to go outside. How frequently cat parents let them go outside and can pheromones help them free of stress? IMO.

My one cat had severe gingivitis with horrible stinky teeth, i was able to get rid of the smell with brushing. but she ultimately needed a cleaning. she had decaying teeth unfortunately. but i did notice that it stopped the decay from going to her other teeth. the dentist was surprised that her mouth wasnt so bad. when extracting her teeth, he told me he was stunned he didnt find any black built up in her teeth. she didnt even need extra antibiotics when i got her home.

my other cat had brown teeth, red and orange teeth. huge chunks of tartar. it took a few months, but the brushing loosened the tartar and i was able to gently chip it off with my nail. her teeth are now completely white and clear or tartar.

i dont know if the toothpaste im using is whats working, but i plan on continuing to use it.

Dentasure: oral care gel for cats.

You need to be persistent and take a minute twice a day to brush. once a day wont be enough in the beginning. for me its worth it. i want to prevent my cat needing oral surgery again.

i dont know if its worth it, since hes an older cat, but most cats want to go outside because of hormones, making them want to mate. also, make sure they are being exercised daily, boredom can cause a desire to want to go outside.

my one cat likes the taste of the tastepaste and allows me to brush her teeth, my other cat i need to catch unaware lol
