Hello,
a 3 months old kitten showed up in front of our house a week ago. We managed to catch him-he isn't really used to people and is very timid. We have 8 housecats of our own, so we took the kitten to the vet quickly. He had a massive stomach, but other than that he was completely fine. Long story short, the vet did a rapid blood test, it came out positive for FIP, she was pretty adamant about putting him down, but we were in contact with a shelter that would take him and try to medicate him, so we gave him to them. The shelter wasn't sure about the diagnosis, took him to their vet, did in-depth blood tests and he does not, in fact have, FIP, his massive stomach is due to worms, so they called us and we took him back. For the record, we're never going to the former vet, because of her insistence on putting down a kitten based on a rapid test.
Anyways, all of this happened during 5 days-us taking him home, giving him to the shelter and taking him back, a lot of stress for him. Ever since we got him back he refuses to move. He likes sleeping on the window, so he is capable of getting up and down to go to the toilet, but other than that he doesn't really move. Sometimes we found him sleeping in the toilet.
Two days ago we noticed a fever, so we took him to the vet. Because we found his lack of movement very weird-outside he was frantically running around, we asked the vet to examine him. She believes it has nothing to do with his hind legs-bones nor muscles, nothing to do with his skeleton either (didn't do x-rays though). The thing is, he CAN walk, even run, especially when startled. He limps, but can walk. She thinks it might be calicivirus. In the end she gave him a shot to lower his fever and Meloxidyl for the weekend. The shot worked almost immediately and he doesn't have fevers now.
The only symptoms he has now are sore throat and the limping. He eats a lot and has a nice poop. We're going to a different vet on Monday, just so we can get more opinions. He's really interested in toys, but the worrying thing is that even when we somehow manage to get him to stand up and walk, he can't do it for more than few seconds and always lays down in the end, most of the time he crawls while playing. He sits weird with his hind right leg sticking out and tends to avoid it. He also has kind of small ticks he does with his head when interested in something, but that might be just us overreacting. I attached some videos below.
What are your opinions? We're really worried for him.

Cute little guy! I know fever can cause muscle weakness, but not sure if that is a symptom that would hang around once the fever is gone. Perhaps the weakness/lameness caused the fever if it is tied to some sort of bone/tissue inflammation.

I wonder if he would stay on the Meloxidyl longer if that might help any - it is an anti-inflammatory and if his leg movement is related to some sort of inflammation in the tissue/bone a longer-term regimen might be of benefit for him. Ask the vet about how they could look for inflammation in his hind legs - x-rays, as mentioned above, are likely a good place to start.

Will the new vet on Monday do x rays?
Hopefully, we want them for sure. One of our cats is ''crippled'' (an old injury he got far before we found him) and this little guy sits in a similar way as him, so we definitely want to.

We think it might be some kind of inflammation too, that would be the best case scenario, honestly.. This was the second day of him taking the Meloxidyl and we think it's helping him.. Few hours ago he was chasing toys! But only a little, he can't stand and walk for more than a moment.. X-ray is definitely something we're going to ask for.
