I didn’t mean wild literally just that he never let her close before even with the owner. He was alone for two weeks until we got him to come for food but even then we had to feed him behind the corner and he wouldn’t eat with us watching him even from the window ! So I don’t think he was even a stray as he was like this just for two weeks - when owner died suddenly and he was in hospitals a lot too- so he was a bit stray but I thought a stray when he would be like this for monthsHe would be considered a stray since he has had contact with humans in his earlier life. A true wild cat, born and surviving in the wild, is a feral, which wants no contact at all with humans and flees at the sight of them. They CAN be tamed with lots of work, especially the young, I have a feral that eventually was touched, but it took years.
Your poor baby learned to mistrust humans, especially when he was abandoned, and like a lot of cats is shy and takes a while to warm up. They actually crave human contact, like with your neighbor, but are still very afraid. My cats disappear and are not seen at all until company leaves, even when my frequent visitor grandson comes, i have only one taht goes up to him. So the fear is deeply ingrained, even with house cats. Once a cat learns to trusts you. you will receive his heart and his love, a very fortunate person, you earn a cats love!
PS thank you so much for taking him in, inside is definitely the safest place for him, there are too many dangers outside. He is one lucky cat to have found angels here on earth!
