Hey there! Hope no one minds be hopping in here without taking the time to set up a decent profile or anything. I’m just really curious about something! 2-3 mos ago I went from having 0 cats to now having 1 adult and 6 kittens because a momma in need snuck into my house, and it’s been a real blessing! ^^ Many of whom I will give to good homes later on. Anyway, I wanted to ask about one kitten in particular. No matter how many times I check, the distance between the genitals and anus cause it to appear to be male when compared to examples I have seen online. However, the kitten also seems to have both black and orange fur, which I heard is a bit uncommon for male cats. Maybe I’m mistaken! Please fill me in on some details, and thanks for reading! ^^

Awww! 😍

He is, in fact, a little boy. His coloring is a brown tabby, but tabbies often have a lot of different shades of brown, including an orangish brown. But he doesn't have any true red like his brother there.

I can tell the mom is a tortie!

Adorable little baby! Good for you for taking in a mama cat in need :)

I agree, that looks like a boy's rear end. I would describe your kitten as a brown mackerel tabby and white domestic shorthair.

Brown mackerel tabby is the original color and pattern of the domestic cat (or "wild type"), designed by nature to provide camouflage for the cat in tall grasses and other natural environments, by using a subtle and complex combination of many shades of brown and gray, overlaid with black stripes and spots. The background color can vary a lot, from a cold grayish beige, to a very warm rusty brown with orange tones. Certain areas (around the ears, belly, etc.) have a tendency to be more orange in tone.

Oh, she is lovely! We call that coloring torbie, because it's a mix of tabby and tortie (since she has stripes on the dark spots). And the adorable little baby torbie too! What do the other kittens look like?

Oh that’s interesting! I’ll post some more photos of them. ^^ One of the kittens is a bit larger than all the rest. She had a bit of a hard time with him. He was the last one born.
There are 6 in total!

There’s a cute black kitten, but I realize I don’t have a picture of that one from the last few days.

So 2 reds, 1 torbie, 1 tabby with white paws, 1 solid black, what color is #6? Or are there 3 reds and I just lost count, lol? Is the torbie the only girl?
