Hello fellow cat-addicts.
I am Rachael, and I am blessed to be owned by five wonderful cats.
Puzzles, Mocha, Tyler, Kobie and Thurston.
You can see them all on Catster http://www.catster.com/?155351
Puzzles is 20 years young and going strong. Shes a tough old lady who keeps us all in line. I got her for my fifth birthday, and she survived despite having a five year old owner. She has hyperthyroidism, well controlled with medication. We considered doing the Radioactive Iodine treatment on her, but sadly her kidneys didn't pass the test. Puzz is a beautiful black and white with gorgeous avocado green eyes.
Mocha was a foundling from my freshman year in college. She was quite pregnant when I found her and she soon gave birth to four kittens in my dorm room. Mocha is the sweetest cat I have ever known, she lives to be held, loved and cuddled. I was able to find homes for all of her babies but one....
Tyler, Mocha's son, was returned to me by two different families, for being "aloof, indifferent, scared, or unsociable". Tyler is none of these things with me. I guess he just decided that I was him Momma and no one else would do. He, like his mother is very affectionate, in his own time. He is a slightly neurotic, very sensitive soul. He has lots of issues and I'm sure I will posting about him reguarly.
Kobie I found run over on the freeway. He was broken but purring. I fixed him up and brought him in. Kobie is orange, and special in that orange cat way. He is quite the character and incorrigible about running outside. I don't let my cats out, ESPECIALLY him, since he obviously doesn't know to stay out of the road, but he is quite persistant and I find myself at my wits end about keeping him indoors. He also like to mount the other cats, particuarly Mocha. I've often wondered if he was neutered properly. Is there such a thing as a proud cut cat?
Thurston is technically my brothers cat, but I introduced the two, and thus get the blame for bringing him into the fold. Thurston is the youngest at 18 months, the biggest at 14 pounds, and the brattiest little monster I've ever met. He's absolutely adorable and gets away with murder on a regular basis. We all love them.
All of my cats are altered, and live inside. They have very distinct personalities, and I am blessed to have each and every one of them in my life, much to my dogs dismay.
As for myself, I am a 24 year old graduate student. I work as a university grunt. I spent seven years of my life working as Veterinary Technician, including two years at an emergency vet clinic. I do a little bit of rescue when I can afford it. Truth be told, I would love to save them all. Cats are wonderful creatures who have just gotten a bad rap in our society.
I look forward to getting to know you all.
