I got home a couple days ago, and my cat went under the bed (she never does this). She came out later yowling, so I popped my head around the corner to see her walking sideways, hunched over and limping. She kept laying down and her left leg was twitching, also her left paw was curled inwards (as if she had a cramp?). She couldn't get comfortable, kept stretching her legs out when she was laying down and pacing the house yowling. Then went under the bed again. She came out once more, limping, walking hunched. She proceed to spend the night with me on the floor snuggling in blankets, and only got up a few times to try to eat but couldn't get comfy while standing I guess, and would promptly come back to my side and lay down.
The next morning I got up, saw that she had used her litter box, drank water through out the night and ate all her food. Also, she was fine. Like nothing had happened. Woke up a few times to find her cuddled up with me on the couch purring too.
She has arthritis. She has had a limp before, and usually walks a bit hunched, but I have never seen her like this. She also has severe dental disease, and the beginning of kidney failure, but is on meds for all this stuff. She is also 19 years old.
I called my vet and she said the meds she is on should not cause these symptoms, and if it happens again to bring her in. Until then I watch her carefully. I'm so scared it was a seizure or stroke, or a blood clot, or something terrible like that. 2 days later though she is acting as if nothing happened and looks fine!
Could arthritis do this to a cat? Like a flare up? That's what I'm hoping this was. Just glad she is OK but I'm totally paranoid now.
