So we have been going along just fine with my two 4 year old kitties - they’ve been eating 9oz a day and maintaining a perfect weight. Both are very active. That said, over the past 6 months I’ve noticed they’ve put on some weight. They eat fancy feast pate (no fish), and eat only wet food. How much do you all feed your cats? Maybe it’s time to cut them down to 6 ounces each. They eat first thing in the morning, again around 12-1pm and again at 9:30pm.

Hi - maybe try decreasing just the mid-day meal, just a small bit and add some water if they'll accept it, or feed that 9:30 meal earlier so that they have a chance to work off the calories before night-time unless they're still little terrors overnight? Or maybe add a different brand of food that has a different nutritional composition?

Many people feed each cat enough calories based on body weight. A general rule is to feed 20 to 25 calories per pound of body weight daily. To lose weight, calculate how many calories each cat is currently eating. Most likely they are both eating too much for their body weight. Reduce the amount of calories for each cat by no more than 10%. The can label tells you how many calories (kcal) are in each can. Fancy Feast has less than 100 calories per 3 oz can. Then feed each cat enough cans daily to meet their weight goal. Factor in the calories from small amount of dry food they get daily. Stick with this for at least a couple of weeks and weigh the cats weekly to see if they are losing weight or not. Weigh loss takes time in cats (ie weeks to months).
