I currently brush my cat once a week for 10 minutes, I'm not sure if that's right or not.

Short hairs don't really *need* to be brushed on a regular basis. They can be brushed regularly though to help control cat hair or just for the bonding. It is a good habit and once a week sounds good to me.

That sounds like it should be fine! Shorthaired cats are easy in the grooming department, because they don’t get tangles or mats as easily as their longhaired counterparts. With shorthairs, the goal is really just to remove some loose fur that your cat could swallow, and then cause a hairball.
