homemade cat food recipe for Senior cat

Hi, how old is your cat? What are specifics in the food that you're looking for? Does your cat have medical issues?

Jack ( my daughter’s cat) the cat is 18 yrs old. In 2021 he had a kidney infection, from then on Jack has not eaten organic dry cat food. We researched about homemade cat food and different recipes - recipe we have is for baked chicken breast, liver, heart n gizzards. We boil chicken bones and use broth to accompany his food. We add supplements to the food as well. However, we wonder if he also has a thyroid problem. Jack does not have trouble eating and drinking ( filtered water). Sometimes he has soft/ watery stools. Is it possible that one of the meat organs gives him loose stools? We have not cook w beef for him. He did good w Turkey breast. Is there any combination of food that we can make to benefit his thyroid and kidneys? Attached picture of Jack 2022.

When a cat is hyperthyroid, symptoms are an unusual appetite, sometimes extreme, and a consistent weight loss even with increased food intake.
The vet can run a blood test and determine if your cat is hyperthyroid. A free T4 test is helpful if the initial test is in the normal range but hyper-T is suspected.
If your cat is actually hyper-T, there are three treatment options, one of which is a prescription for Hills thyroid y/d canned and kibble. The food is made with nearly zero iodine.
If your cat isn't hyper-T, the kidney infection was totally healed, and he doesn't have kidney disease, then as long as you are ensuring that your recipe is absolutely providing all the nutritional requirements necessary, I don't think you need to do anything differently other than using turkey since he did well with that to avoid poop issues.

However, your cat appears thin and is possibly experiencing muscle wasting? Is s/he active? Can you help her/him become more active, with play or even following you around the room while you hold the food plate or treats (whatever works for motivation)?
Can you try adding a commercial canned food such as Mouser so he is getting more calories?

Daughter found new vet that is more holistic and appt is for the mid June. Basmati or Jasmine rice is added to food also. We’ll alternate between Turkey n chicken still cooking the organs. Well heck on the Mouser brand. He does gets some activity w the 2 yr cat. We’ll ask the new vet to do the test you have recommended. In the meantime, we’ll follow your suggestion about using Mouser.
