My cat has always done this, and it isn't really an issue, just a curiosity. I noticed when he plays he will start to hiss every once in a while during playtime. I don't think he's aggressive or scared because he does it when he's playing by himself as well. Is it just over stimulation? Or is there another reason for the odd behavior?

Some cats, mine included, hiss at their toys, at imaginary things on the wall and sometimes at nothing at all. It is just play and doesn’t mean much more than that.

He is talking. He is trying to look tough to his toys. All part of play. Cats are weird. Lol.

Alright, thanks for letting me know. :3
He is the opposite of tough though. xD He gets scared of his own shadow.

My Willow is like that too—afraid of everything . The only time she is absolutely fierce, yowling and hissing is where she is terrorizing her toys. She is 8 and still loves to play.

Could be the hissing is a momentary spooking over nothing, too =)

Don't worry, I wasn't worried, just curious. :)
I've had 7 cats over my life, and he is the only one that does it, and none of the cats at the shelter ever did it. I just wanted to know if it was special to him or something lol

My cat will hiss at her toy if it gets away one too many times (and by that, I mean that she catches it and I pull it away before she can "bury" it the way she likes to). It's actually pretty funny. She's very intense about her playtime.
