hello team,

I really need support on this:

I have a 5-month-old cat who was diagnosed with FIP, she is eating and playing, the only symptom she has is sometimes she has diarrhea and she is not gaining weight.

she is 1.38 grams and according to the vet she should be 1.8. We did multiple tests, blood, feces, ultrasound with cytology, PCR and everything seems correct, but my vet insists that she has pif and we must start the experimental treatment of which I am very skeptical and I don’t have all the money to pay it.

I would like to know if anyone is or was in the same situation and can give me a recommendation.

Thanks in advance

Hi. Is it possible that your cat is experiencing diarrhea from just recently contracting the FeCV virus, rather than it mutating to FIP? Some cats will experience diarrhea when they first contract FeCV.

Nonetheless, I would advise you to join the FIP Warriors on Facebook. FIP Warriors® 5.0 | Facebook. I am guessing that you will need to be prepared to answer questions with specific details related to the testing your vet has done.

Please keep us posted.

Welcome to TCS! :wave3: I'm sorry to hear your cat was given a diagnosis of FIP. Just out of curiosity, if all the multiple tests came back negative what is your vet basing their decision on? The two symptoms you mentioned, i.e. diarrhea and loss of weight, could be any number of health problems. If it were me and I had my doubts I'd definitely get a second opinion for my own peace of mind. We had a young cat who was diagnosed with FIP and even after the vet tried everything to help him we still got a second opinion from a feline veterinary specialist. I thought some of these TCS threads might be helpful for you:

FIP or another Infection??
Is it really fip?
Please help me understand
FIP

Thank you very much for your answer, I read all the post!!.

yes, we did blood and protein tests, the first test was positive for coronavirus and a little anemia, in the second blood test the results were all correct.

In the protein test, the A/G ratio was 0.7 and everything was fine too.

The ultrasound shows some swollen glands but the cytology was inconclusive and we are waiting for the PCR results but the cytology said it could be a false negative.

The symptoms she had were:

- Dry eye: we started using artificial tears and this solves the problem, right now we don't apply it anymore and her eyes are fine.

- Diarrhea: intermittent diarrhea mostly with loose stools, we changed the diet to Hills - Biome Dry and wet and in some cases she has normal "hard" stools.

-Weight: constant weight, she does not gain weight but she does not lose weight either, last week we bought a weight to control it at home and on 12/22 she weighed 1,368gr and now she weighs 1,449gr so we are happy that she has gained a bit, but we do not know if it is enough, according the vet she has to be at 1.8 (we also give Royal canin - recovery)

Those are all the symptoms, she is active and happy, she sleeps well and eats a lot 😃

I am waiting for the PCR results and definitely ask for a second opinion but I wanted to ask for some valuable opinions
