This will probably be long so apologies for that in advance.
Morgan has had chronic allergy and respiratory problems. Those have been treated with steroids, oral and injection, antibiotics and homeopathic remedies all vet prescribed. This past August he started losing weight along with another allergy flare. He had a steroid injection and blood work revealed nothing abnormal other than slightly elevated BUN. Pale colored stools started in November followed by diarrhea in December. That was treated with metronidazole and endosorb. All during this his appetite was off the chain(still is). So in late January after Cole went in for his yearly exam I asked for Morgan to be seen especially for hyperthyroid test. That was normal. PCV of 22 was the main abnormal value everything else was either normal or a point or 2 off. Cystocentesis was unremarkable as well. Further testing revealed non regenerative anemia no mycoplasma. He was started on doxycycline anyway while waiting for those results. Abdominal swelling started a week after his trip in for the original blood work. Those were drained in Feb by local vet (fluid analysis revealed heart likely source) while waiting for opening in cardiologist schedule. He was seen on 2/18 & 19 by internal medicine specialist and cardiologist. Another thyroid test was high normal remaining bloodwork same as what was found locally except PCV 19. Ultrasound revealed enlarged abdominal lymph nodes. Those were aspirated and found to have metastatic mast cells. No lesions have ever been seen on any of his organs and I would not let her cut him open. She was just a little too eager for that to my liking...a cat with heart problems seriously! Cardiologist dx was chronic changes due to anemia, long-term lung disease, pulmonary hypertension and clotting factors. Morgan is on vetmedin, sildenafil and Lasix. He has been seen in follow up twice by cardiologist and goes back again Monday. Last visit he added dexamethasone and plavix (PTE on lung xray). I started the dex but not the plavix because Morgan is still active and has fallen because of his awkward belly. Cardiologist had discussed the risk factors of both the dex and plavix on that visit but thought it worthwhile on a low dose. Blood work remained stable at that point.
He has food allergies which I retested recently to find chicken is now on the list. Oops he has consumed 3 tubs of raw livers, a favorite of his from kittenhood, over the past few weeks. Oh well no more of those! All of my cat's eat a mix of raw canned and cooked. When they were younger they had dry but no more.

The biggest issue now is diarrhea and continued swelling. Hoping maybe the chicken livers had something to do with that. Local vet is so hung up on diagnoses that he won't drain him says too hard. What is so hard? He has an ultrasound! Morgan lays as still as all get-out actually acts like he enjoys being drained. I know about pressure and electrolyte imbalances but I am more concerned about his comfort and he hasn't drained that often. With him eating and drinking I don't see the issue there. He actually went from 3/1 to 4/30 without having to be drained at all. Wish I could figure out what changed.

Thanks for reading! Any thoughts on diarrhea treatment? I've tried slippery elm, Terra Luma which is bentonite clay, propectalin, endosorb.
Not great results with any of these. I am not oblivious to his mast cells but if he is eat up with cancer it must be vey mild because he eats drinks and does everything he always has. So as long as he keeps going I am too. I suspect I will wear out first though he runs me ragged bless his heart and is impatiently waiting for food now! Takes his meds like a champ too. First picture was taken on our last trip to the cardiologist 5/3. His belly in the second.

I'm so sorry Morgan is having so many health issues. I have no advice, I just wanted to mention that my RB kitty Cindy had a mast cell tumor on her colon. She was otherwise healthy so we went ahead with the surgery and chemo. I think we should have skipped the chemo, but she did well for a while then started going downhill again. She did live another almost 2 years, good quality life. At the time they told us Mast cell in cats was unusual and it took the surgery to actually get that diagnosis.

It sounds like you're doing everything possible for your baby, and I hope you have him around for a lot more years.

Hi. What a lovely and wonderful cat (you too)! I 'got nothing' and don't normally recommend stuff like plain pumpkin, but maybe it is worth it in your case to try it. Pumpkin has been known to work in both cases of diarrhea and constipation - depending on the cause - hence the reason I don't often suggest it. Maybe it was the livers that he consumed, and it will pass (no pun intended)? Here is some info on the use of pumpkin, if it helps any:

"Pumpkin is high in soluble fibre which can help to coat and soothe the GI tract. In addition, it delays gastric emptying, reversing the effects of increased peristalsis (gastric emptying) which occurs in cats with diarrhea.
It is high in potassium, which is a common electrolyte lost during diarrhea and is well tolerated by cats."

If you can treat the electrolyte imbalances the can result from draining his fluid in order to make him more comfortable - then push for Morgan to get them. Morgan is a fighter and so are you!

Thanks for the words of support and so sorry to hear about Cindy. If Morgan had not had the heart issues I would probably have gone the surgical route. It is wonderful you had that much longer with your girl!

Morgan says thank you, as do I, for the compliment! I will try the pumpkin. He will probably eat it straight the way he is attacking food these days. Reminds me of when he was a kitten still at my mom and step-dad's yard. Morgan's cat mom had brought him to their yard and left him. Morgan would wait until the adult ferals left the food trays and would go eat with his little front feet firmly planted in the dish. Determined to survive from the beginning!

Thank you for telling us. As I can see, you are already looking at the Crossing the Bridge forum. Please tell us all you want in that forum, with pics included, about his life. It is so worth it to share, to give him his rightful tribute and an everlasting memorial for Morgan.
