Hi!

Today I noticed that my cat was licking the same area on his back paw for quite a while. I took a look at his toes to make sure he was okay and noticed that one of his claws was splitting. I've never seen this happen before and was wondering if I should take him to the vet? He doesn't seem to be limping either. I've provided pictures of the claw (I hope they're clear enough!).

Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate it!

Hi L LuckyTheCat31 and welcome to TCS!
Nails do split, but not quite to that degree. It looks to me like it's been caught on something. If it were my cat I'd take him to the vet so that they can remove it.. It's the top bit, without any blood supply, but it's split right back to the paw so I wouldn't be trying to do anything yourself. I imagine it's really irritating him.

Thank you so much for the response! I'll be sure to take him to the vet as soon as possible. Have a great rest of your day!
