So I'm in America for a while. I've been here for nearly a month now, and I'm leaving about a month and a half from now.

I'm staying with my great uncle. He has a cat who stays outside and only comes in and leaves early in the morning. He wouldn't come near me or anyone new. He's terrified of new people. He did come close to me two or three times though and sniffed my leg, but would run away if I moved slightly or made a noise.

What do I do? I feel bad because it's a bit cold for him outside I think. He comes in when nobody new's in the house.

you didn't do anything. it doesn't sound like he's used to being around people, and you're a person.

spend time sitting as near to him as he'll allow. bring him treats.

but remember, after you leave, things will go back to normal for him.

Things are progressing. He allowed me to get very close to him to open the door to let him out. He even didn't run away when I opened the door to let him in.

Sometimes when he's hungry but wouldn't come in, we put his food outside. Sometimes I put it myself. Maybe that helps a bit?

Here's a picture of him asleep.

Honestly, he has a fur coat, and if he is outside a lot and doesn't want to come in I am sure he is fine. He looks pretty content sleeping on the chair there. He probably has a variety of warm hiding places waiting for him.

Also where is Álfheimr? Just curious. I never heard of it. :)

It's one of the nine realms in Norse myths. I was obsessed with it when I made my account. Oopsies. I'm in California right now though if you're curious.

Some days it's very windy and cloudy, which means a bit cold.

According to my great uncle, the cat was born in his garden and isn't well socialised. He actually spends long periods of time in the forest each day; two weeks ago he was eating a bird he'd caught. Even though there's always cat food outside.

Ohh thats pretty cool lol, I can't believe I didn't know what that was a reference to... So what part of Cali are you in? I am in a part that is RIDICULOUSLY hot. Anyway it sounds like the cat has a pretty awesome life honestly lol.

Richmond.

It is. He's scared of everything except the skunks actually. The deer, the turkeys, probably the raccoons. The coyotes most of all. They're the only thing that are more worthy of his attention than a strange human.

So the cat is not his pet? I took care of a stray cat that ate out of a can. She turned feral. Would not eat from a can. Only ate birds and other wild animals. Still very sweet. Continue you to socialize with her a lot and offer treats and wand toys. Is she fixed? I recently had a friend whose cat was destroyed by coyote so be careful. Can you add a catio or covering with chicken wire?

I don't think he legally owns him, but yes, the cat is neutered.

We don't want to put a fence because it'll prevent the other animals from coming in. It's very precious when you find things like deer and turkeys in your garden. We also get skunks and raccoons daily, and a couple of weeks ago we even had a grey fox.

We chasethe coyotes away though. They're the only thing we don't welcome here. The cat comes in late at night I think. I think he's safe otherwise because there are lots of skunks at night, an I doubt a coyote would want to get near one of those. We check on him hourly, too.

What about rabies shots? Curious if a cat knows what a skunk is capable of before he does it.

He's good. I'll ask more though. But he's been neutered for years now, I believe. You know what they say, if you feed a cat you have to neuter it.

He was hissing at a skunk the other day. Everything here is so adorable omg help
