cat not peeing in shredded litter box?

hi everyone!
so i just got my cat neutered and my vet advised me to not use litter for now and use shredded paper instead. problem is, my cat refuses to pee in the box with the shredded paper. he instead has peed in a random cardboard box and a couch. any advice?

Can you get some puppy pee pads and see if he'll like one of those better in the litterbox?

Hi! Just make sure you keep the litter box with the shredded paper along side - he might choose to use it as well - if not for pee, maybe for poop!

It's been so long since I have had a male cat go through neutering, but I don't recall having had an issue with him using his own litterbox (with clumping litter) afterward. The other thing to consider is just keeping a very small amount of litter in his box - maybe enough just to cover the bottom? You can keep an eye on his 'privates' just to make sure nothing is sticking to him.

I've never had to change litter type post-neuter surgery. Many people don't either. You can go back to the regular litter and just monitor the incision area daily.
