Hi,
It could be an inflammatory process of the gum, or it could something worse. The photo doesn't help much, of course, a vet could be more helpful.

It kind of looks like what they call a 'rodent ulcer', a form of eosinophilic granuloma complex - nothing to do with rodents at all. Not typically dangerous and can sometimes be brought on by bacteria built up in food and water dishes, particularly when they are plastic or not cleaned regularly.

Given your cats age, there could be other causes - or other types of diseases. So, at least send pics to your vet to see what they say about it. In the meantime, you can read about these types of granulomas in case that would help any.

Thank you. I don't use plastic dishes and clean their dishes daily. But either way, bacteria could be the cause. I'm going vto the vet tomorrow and have sent them photos. I hope to find out more in person then. Thank you.
