Hello! Ive been googling this for the last 12 hours and cant find any information so I came here in hopes someone can help! My roommates cat is pregnant it is her second litter. She went into labor yesterday at about 1:30pm, meowing loudly, panting, nervous, nesting, different behavior to the other cats, etc. It went on like that for 7 hours and then she vomited a tiny bit and since then shes been resting and acting normal, eating & drinking. Its now 9:20am the next day and shes continuing to act normal. So my question is.... can cats have breaks in their labor before they start producing kittens? We are concerned becuase last time all the same things happened leading up to the bith except she did not suddenly stop like she is now. (We will be taking her to a vet tomorrow if no kittens come before then, but for now im just wanting to know if anyone else has experienced this?)

It sounds like it may have been pre-labor pains. If she’s okay now she will eventually go back into labor when her kittens and her body are ready. A vet check is always a good idea though. Will this cat be spayed after this litter?

Yes she will! Poor babies been knocked up twice now, she doesnt need to be a third time 😭 Shes an indoor cat that lives with another female who is spayed and a male who is nurtured. Her first litter was due to a stray getting in the house. This time we honestly dont know how it happened and think our ex roommates let her out.

Im hoping thats the case! It just has us worried becuase she was definitely in active labor yesterday. But her babies are still moving around in there so im hoping in the next 24 hours we will have the first baby! If not, she will be at the ver first thing in the morning.

IF it was prelabor pains: everything is OK and its just to wait; prob a 2-3 days. As long as she seems fine, it should be fine.

IF it was interrupted full labor, it become more touchy. Because she had long labor, and didnt produced anything: normally its ALARM! Vet ASAP! Still, as long she is fine no visible problems, you can probably wait and see. During the time, give her calcium rich food, whatever she takes, as much as she takes: too little calcium may cause weak labor...

Yes, to ask a vet may be wise, especielly as you arent much experienced.
If you have several vets to choose, pick this whom is an experienced obstetrician with cats...
