It's not recommended to keep a freezer in the garage, but I did it at my last house and it worked fine. It usually voids the warranty though.
Coming back to this because I decided to look them up on Lowes. GE makes some that are "Garage ready" and they have an alarm on them in case the door is left open or something like that. They aren't cheap; but I don't know if they even have any in stock right now anyway. Maybe we will just have to keep watching for deals down the road. Or someone selling a gently used one. I like the idea of the alarm though. My Dad's basement is unfinished so they don't go down there for much and they lost a whole freezer once because the door was left open.

I should get one; the cats unplugged the freezer once, and I didn't notice right away so everything half-thawed. Since it was still cold I only threw a couple things away but refreezing doesn't do any favors to the texture. I ziptied the plug to the outlet now, but an alarm wouldn't hurt just in case.
