Hi,
My cat is a year old. When we got her, her nose was white. A few months in she had a black line across the bridge of her nose. In another month it was gone. A month after that it started to come back. You could see it forming. This time the spot stayed for two months. I took her to the vet and in the 15 min drive to the vet, the spot had completely disappeared. Her whole nose appeared swollen. They did a full work up and couldn’t find anything wrong. We got home and a red spot appeared and now a week later the spot is back and bigger. To my knowledge she has had zero trauma to it. She acts fine. Eats and drinks normally. What could this be? Why would it disappear and reappear? My vet doesn’t know.

Hi Baldwinc610 Baldwinc610
We had a similar situation with our cat. Here's my prior thread.
She had this hard black scabby like spot that grew wider on her nose. She also had another spot that looked like dirt, similar to your picture above. We wiped it with apple cider vinegar and it fell off but kept recurring to a lesser degree until it stopped recurring altogether.

I just realized that I had documented the progress of her spot to send to a specialist. I'm attaching a link to that because the image is too large to directly upload. You might have to download it and zoom in on the individual pictures to get a closer look, but it's a high res image so that shouldn't be a problem.

Still no idea what caused it. We took her to her primary vet, an internist as well as a dermatologist. I think a skin swab might have been taken but I'm not sure. The dermatologist said that it's likely some kind of dermatitis or allergic reaction and that they would consider a biopsy if it ever came back as a black scab again. But so far it has not recurred.

. Wiping with apple cider vinegar would make the spot come off although not immediately. I know they wiped it off with hydrogen peroxide at the clinic, but I would not recommend using that at home.

My recommendation to you would be to find a vet dermatologist as they would likely have more insight that a primary vet.

Hope you have some clarity soon! Your cat is adorable!

Hi Baldwinc610 Baldwinc610
I replied to you on a different thread that you'd posted on. My cat had a very similar spot on her nose.

In case you haven't seen that response - in our cat's case we never figured out what happened but the dermatologist who we eventually took her to suspects it was some kind of dermatitis or allergic reaction. Wiping with apple cider vinegar would make the spot come off although not immediately. I know they wiped it off with hydrogen peroxide at the clinic, but I would not recommend using that at home.

Thank you! I appreciate your reply. I will look in to a vet dermatologist for sure. Your cat’s photos do look very similar.
