Two weeks a my cat was very unwell and suffered from a high fever (104). His tummy was sore to touch. I thought he was constipated or had a hairball. He had some kind of infection, but the vet did not know where it came from. His bloods came out fine, as well as his urinalysis. He had been sedated to check him, then gave my boy an antibiotic injection, which helped him immensely. Last Friday, I noticed that he had an oval-shaped raw red area, which looked to me like a burn. We have old radiators in our house that he likes to lay under in weird positions, so I thought he might have burnt himself on the stem. Vet said just keep an eye on it. He has not lay under the radiator that I could see lately, as we put his bed close enough to it that he can get the warmth without being under it. Today, I noticed that he has another the same shape, and feels like a flattish lump, close to it, but the skin is still intact. He does occasionally get a swollen lower lip once every few months that the vet can't find the cause and he gets a steroid. I have been spraying Leucillin on the open wound, but I had also been putting Homeopets HP cream over that, as I thought it was a burn. I sent pics to the vet this morning to see if it might be ringworm, but they don't think so. The earliest they can get him in is Tuesday morning, so I took that. I am thinking maybe an allergy to something, but does anyone know what this might be? I stopped the balm since now I don't think it's a burn, but am still spraying the leucillin, as it is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal ant anti-viral, but I stopped putting on the balm when I realized that it probably isn't a burn.

Welcome to The Cat Site! From your pic, I don't think it is ringworm either....which is at least some good news. I am not clear about whether you are definitely sure these are not burns. Here is the other side to that though; most cats are very careful not to injure themselves so I even have to wonder if the initial sore is a burn. He would have to have laid there long enough to receive that level of burn and I think he might have moved as soon as he felt the initial singe. Do these resemble the sore he gets on his lip?

The first pic looks somewhat bloody or raw, but the second two look different. Are they all the same as far as you can tell?

Is he in discomfort from them and does he try to lick at them? Tuesday is not that far away and he will probably be okay until you see the vet.

What Kind of Allergies Do Cats Have?

Cats can certainly have allergies and, like with people, they can be to many things and take various forms.

Did the vet suspect any relation to the fever he had a couple of weeks ago? Find out when you see him. Please let us know what you are told.

The 2nd two pics look like some sort of a welt, like a bug bite, but that first pic doesn't look like that at all. And it does look painful. I've got no ideas what it might be, but will be very interested to hear about what the Vet thinks.

Another welcome to TCS! :wave3: I could be way off base but it resembles a form of Histiocytosis to me. If this happens to be what he has it should be treated by a veterinary dermatology specialist. Sending special thoughts and healing vibes your way. :vibes:Please keep us posted after your vet visit. Good luck! :alright:

Hi Fionas Mom,

Thank you so much! Finn does sleep in akward positions under the radiator, but it was when I saw the second patch in the same shape that I started to think it was not a burn. It is hard to tell if it resembles his lower lip, because it's so tiny-just swollen skin. He only started scratching at it yesterday. My camera phone is horrible! They are both the same shape and the one is red and raw (but seems to be healing a bit, which might have been the reason for the itching starting yesterday. At first, it was all read-seemed like layers of skin were off, but now starting to grow back), and the other one is still under the skin, but looked a bit oozy around the periphery). I will definitely keep you all posted on what the vet says. I'm anxiously awaiting Tuesday! Apologies for delays; I live in Scotland, so we are 5 hours ahead of EST and 8 for PST. : )

Hi Mrs Green Jeans,

Thank you!🥰 It doesn't seem to bother him too much; he is full of beans and still running around the house like a maniac, knocking things off of smooth surfaces, harassing his big brother, playing with his toys, eating, drinking and using the litterboxes.😹 I am spraying Leucillin on the spots, which is a non-stinging antiseptic solution (homeopathic remedy safe for cats, dogs, bunnies and horses), so I am hoping that it works to take away any pain that he might have associated with it. I will definitely keep you posted. 😊

Not necessarily bad news which is why I said there are different forms of it which are treatable. Fingers crossed your vet will be able to give you a more accurate diagnosis. :crossfingers:

I love Scotland....just had to get that out of the way! No apologies about replying as you are trying to take care of your cat and have other things to do in your life, I am sure. Someone is always here on TCS. Please do let us know what the vet says.

Hi Crichton,
Firstly sorry that cat and you have been going through this and I totally understand your worry.
I‘m more or less a total layman in the cat medical area, but due to some skins issues my cat was experiencing I did - among other things -start reading into the umbrella term „EOSINOPHILIC GRANULOMA COMPLEX“ (sorry used copy funtion for correct spelling and was all in capitals - I didnt mean to shout! ;)) - an auto immune disorder, usually based on an allergic reaction - which was suspected in my kitty as everything else was excluded. My cat‘s „lesions“ looked different though, more like raised bites (she was totally parasite free though) which she scratched relentlessly.
The results of my cat’s biopsy did come back negative, but some of the skin lesions you describe/show (especially recurring lower lip) sound suspiciously like EGC and it may be worth just mentioning it to your vet to see what they think. In the final instance a biopsy is the best indicator of what‘s going on.
The previous intestinal issue your cat experienced may just be coiincidence and unrelated or may also be related to the skin issue in many respects (my cat was also suffering from intestinal issues before - but her history as a semi-feral kitten eating leftovers and trash from the streets of Greece was entirely different to your cat), but the link between intestinal issues and skin should be considerd for many reasons like: Food allergy or an imbalance in the microbiome etc etc. Alternatively, if your cat does have some auto-immune issues, the intestinal problem could just have triggered the skin eruption, much like herpes is triggered when the immune system is already challenged.
Anyway, this is quite an informative link to EGC

Wishing you and your cat all the best and that the issue resolves as quickly as possible, whatever the underlying cause may be.
Best regards from Germany!

Hello, Eurocat and thank you! I hope that your kitty is doing well through the all of her issues as well. I have been spraying the Leucillin on him and got him a wheat-free food yesterday and the skin has now almost fully grback. It looks way better and I am hoping that the other lump goes down as well. I am on munch break, but I will get a good look at this link tonight. We got Finn from a rescue that found him hanging out in the parking lot of a Chinese food carry-out during the pandemic when everything shut down. Goodness knows what he was eating, but he seemed a little wild himself when we got him. :)
