Hey there, first time poster on this forum and I’m mainly looking for some advice on my kitties health issues or anyone with a similar experience

Monty is a two year old Devon Rex. Always full of energy until we changed his food about a month ago. He refused to eat it and became anorexic. After losing 1 lb we switched his food and he began to put the weight back on. Now that he is back up to weight, he has developed a bad ataxia (can’t walk properly, falls over a lot) and also fecal incontinence.

It’s hard to believe that it’s a condition he’s had from birth as the symptoms just appeared, and he doesn’t have any obvious spinal injuries as evidenced by the x rays we ordered for him.

We’ve been to two different vets and neither can pinpoint the problem, next we are being referred to an animal neurologist to do more tests.

So, has anyone had a similar experience with their young cat? Was there a diagnosis and treatment plan?

Any help is appreciated we are very worried about Monty.

I’m so sorry to hear about Monty. I’m glad that you’re able to work with veterinarians and specialists, and I hope that he has a speedy recovery. :hearthrob:

This article says that there are a lot of possible causes for ataxia in cats: Ataxia in Cats

It’s good that the vets were able to rule out spinal problems. Did they run any blood work? Is the food that he’s eating labeled complete and balanced?

Hey there thanks for the response. I neglected to mention we did run blood tests and the vets found nothing alarming or even abnormal in his blood. We always feed him high quality food, even when we switched it it was to a highly recommended brand.
