HI I would really like to get natural supplement ideas and suggestions for my 13 year old kitty with nasal/throat growths. She sounds stuffed up all the time and we have been though this before and are choosing not to have any surgery done due to her age and quality of life for her.
I really wanted to post on the Holistic Health and Nutrition forum but it says YOU HAVE INSUFFICIENT PRIVILEGES TO POST HERE so I am not sure what that means . I tried to click to join the Expert Forum that says join for expert cat advice but it does nothing.
So I am posting here instead.
As I said our girl is 13 and she has nasal/throat growths and I'd like to find a really good safe anti inflammatory for her that might help with her congested issues and help with the inflammation and possibly help shrink the tissues.
I have been doing research and come up with antioxidants, turmeric/curcumin and some immune supplements but then I read contradicting things or that its not safe for cats. So I am a little confused and stuck on knowing which way to go with it.
There is not drainage of any kind and she is eating and acting fine. Just noisey snuffling mostly when she goes around sniffing at stuff.
I'd really appreciate any suggestions, ideas, advice and any blogs , websites, natural or holistic site etc that might be of help.
Thank you all so very much

The problem with cat medical advice in general is that cats have been treated medically like little dogs for so long there just isn't a whole lot of research out there. It's only in the last 40/50 years that science has realized that cats aren't little dogs (shoot, look up rhinos, soy, alfalfa and infertility if you want a real example of how little we know about nature). Cats being obligated carnivores have more sensitive to some things just because their natural system doesn't have thousands of years processing them; oils for example can clog up their liver. But somethings are things that in small quantities aren't impactful so understanding the cumulative impact is hard. It all means that when you are talking holistic (and even modern medicine) options somethings just aren't well understood.

That said, I tend to stay away from holistic because it is such an unknown. Anytime you try to treat without vet supervision you are really going out on a limb of trying to judge what a creature who can't talk and explain how it impact them is impacted. If you know your cat and their behaviors well enough you might be able to read some of it. But any holistic approach will carry risk, especially if you aren't working with a holistic vet. Anyone can post anything on the internet so unless you find someone with actually sources you can't even be sure random searches are leading you in the right direction. While there is really great information out there you really have to fact check a lot of it. And yes, I realize the irony of saying this in an online forum. My general rule when it comes to health information online is I listen to my doctor/vet first and only accept the internet wisdom if everyone can agree (which nearly never happens).

Has your vet made any recommendations? Your vet is going to be the one with the most medical knowledge (usually, I have a cat specific vet so I know mine is a true cat specialist).

The only recommendation I would have is check out CBD. You have to be careful with the source (just like online information, there are bad sources) but it has anti-inflammatory properties. I know from my own experience, it helps my cats arthritis. However, I do give it knowing the medical research is spotty and that giving it to him may have negative side effects in the future. I also give it with my vets knowledge and don't hide it so they can be aware of interactions or advise me to stop if needed.

I think you must have tried to post on our Guest Expert forum. Those forums were open for a brief period while we had a guest expert here temporarily giving advice on TCS, but we closed the forum when the expert left.
