Please help I am so desperate. I Ella stopped eating after dinner on Monday night 1/25. We have been to three vets and the Seattle Veterinary Specialist. She was diagnosed with gastroenteritis. They checked for blockage no obstruction and told me just to feed her bland chicken and rice. She has an anti-nausea medication and a worming medicine. She still is not eating and drinking and taking her in every day for IV. Today I was going to try and syringe feed her water. Has anybody had an experience like this any ideas what might be going on I feel as if there’s something more than just a tummyache. None of it makes any sense why would a perfectly healthy kitten just stop eating and drinking. She is the love of my life I am so desperate please any help any suggestions🙏🏻😢

I am really sorry about your sick kitty. Have you tried chicken or turkey flavor baby food?
Prayers for you and your kitty.

Hi. Did the vet also do a full blood panel and a fecal PCR? Those can help to try to identify the source behind the gastroenteritis. The fecal PCR can help to confirm or rule out certain bacterial and viral infections (in addition to various parasites), which can narrow down the possible treatment options.

I agree with the baby food meats (Gerber Stage 2 or Beechnut). Many cats will eat these when they are rejecting other foods. She is getting fluids - which by the way, you could learn to do at home. Just make sure the subQ fluids she is getting contain electrolytes (they probably do). If not, you could try to see about giving her some children's unflavored Pedialyte.

Also, if she refuses the baby food meats, you might need to ask your vet about a feeding tube. She desperately needs to have some nutrition and very soon! There are many members on this site who have managed subQ fluids and feeding tubes at home.
