I've had my kitten for 3 weeks now when I first got him he was confined to the bathroom and he was pooping and peeing great in the box but then started pooping in the bathtub he has been to the vet got checked out and all that. They suggested the kitten attraction I tried that but it didn't make a difference i decided to move him to the basement to see if he would catch on seeing my 1 year old cat using the box he is peeing only in the boxes now he has started pooping on the basement floor he has run of the house and only poops on the basement floor. I tried different litters didn't work he stands to pee in the box and he scrapes the floor right before pooping at the times I see it I put him in the box he finishes in it but doesn't cover the poop I also tried him in a large kennel for a week pooped in the box great while he was in there but as soon as he was out he went right back to the floor I'm not sure how to break him of the habbit

Hi! Thanks for coming here - one thing I could think of might be some unfertilized potting soil in the litter?

Welcome to TCS! :welcomesign: Glad you joined the forum and came here for support. You mentioned having your kitten for three weeks but just out of curiosity, how old was he when you brought him home? Here is an Article that discusses training a kitten to use the litter box along with some very helpful tips:
How To Train Kittens To Use The Litter Box

Hello and welcome to TCS. Sorry your kitten is having litter box issues. How many litter boxes do you have? Some cats are quirky, and like to pee in one box and poop in another.

Sometimes with kittens it is a process. I would try confining him to one room with 2 litter boxes & puppy pads. Let him out under supervision for an hour at a time, then 15-30 minutes in his room, then an hour out, kind of thing.

I saw a special litter box that was a flat pad and then you could snap one side in at a time to get them used to using a box. I couldn't find it so I would MacGyver a 2 sided low litter box out of a cheap plastic square litter box. Then put a puppy pad in the box (cut it down to size or fold it or heck tape it in place if need be.) First I would get the kitten used to using the puppy pad box. Then I would add a handful of very fine litter a week at a time. Slowly get him used to more & more litter... & 3 then all 4 sides (you can duct tape in one side at a time if need be. Or get really creative with plastic glue.) If he uses puppy pads it is easier to clean then his pooping on the floor.

Lastly I would have the vet check him & his stool. Cats usually resist boxes because it is/had hurt them to go... and they blame the box. He may have parasites/IBS/or allergies.:goodluck:

He is farting? This is sounding more and more like IBS! It really might be worth going to a specialist if his tummy doesn't settle in a month or two. Better to catch it early and treat it now before it becomes a huge promblem.

Normally cats rarely fart. I never hear my cats fart, just occasionally get a whiff. When I say it is rare, I mean the last time I caught one of them farting was over a year ago.

Kittens need to be taught how to bury their poop.

I'm glad he is making progress under your care. :hangin:

Oooops I meant IBD (inflamitory bowel disease.) Gas, rumbling and other things are signs. It might be worth a google and maybe ruling it out in a couple of months if it doesn't get better.
