Hi guys, I just joined this site because I need some opinions after taking my poor baby to multiple vets and still not having answers. Here is our situation, my kitty is about 1 year and 3 months old. I didn't get her spayed right away which now I'm realizing can be dangerous for their health and wish I had done it sooner. With that being said, she has already had a few heat cycles the past few months but her last one was around December 6th and then they completely stopped. I thought it was off but I didn't think much of it until around Jan 1st I noticed a tiny pea-sized lump on her mammary gland, shortly after I noticed the one, I noticed another one further down on her mammary chain. They grew pretty fast,
I took her to the vet and asked if he could aspirate them because by the time I got her in there they were both the size of gumballs. He sent me back home and said to put a hot compress on them for a week and bring her back if no changes, he didn't want to perform a needle aspiration for some reason. He did X-rays and those were normal too. I just had her blood work done in Oct and everything was normal.
Fast forward a week later they doubled in size and are the size of golf balls so the vet told me he recommended I get her spayed, I made the appointment and was able to get her spayed that same week maybe a few days later, at this point the lumps were the size of eggs but still fully intact. The vet was thinking it could even be a false pregnancy since we live with a male cat (he's neutered but he would still mount her when she was in heat sometimes.)
Anyways the surgery went well, they didn't biopsy the lumps because they didn't want to disrupt them and cause too much bleeding and figured it was mammary hyperplasia and they would go down after the spay. Which they did! They shrunk overnight after the spay, the following days they got to be as small as 75% smaller than they were the day of surgery. I was SO happy!
Then I realized something was off the week after her spay surgery, she would screech in my ear at night all night, constant crying and yowling, chirping, and became extremely loving like she was in heat again, this lasted for a few days and I noticed the lumps started growing again. It's been 2 weeks since the surgery and the lumps are as large as eggs again and look like they could burst. I'm in disbelief.
She has an appointment on Friday with another vet to finally have them aspirated and looked at better but I don't think she can wait that long.
Do you guys think it's possible the vet left part of her ovary in and that's why she's going back into heat after her surgery and the hormones are causing the lumps to swell again? The only reason I ask that is because I was reading the yelp reviews of the vet I took her to for the spay surgery and it turns out she had done that to another cat, only took one ovary out, and now she's being sued by that person.
I'm pretty freaked out and stressed out for my cat and I'm praying it's not cancer but the fact that the swelling went down sooo much after the surgery and then went back up again after it seemed like she went into heat leads me to believe is a hormone issue like mammary hyperplasia or false pregnancy.
