Radar had his booster shots this morning (FeLV, calcivirus, rhinotracheitis, chlamidiosis, and panleukopaenia) and the poor wee fella just isn't his usual bouncy self this evening, he's wandering about like an old man instead of bouncing off the walls as he usually does, and he's off his food. He wanted some cuddles earlier but has now slunk off to a quiet corner in the kitchen to snooze.

This happened with his last lot for about 24 hours afterwards and he was fine after that so I'm not really worried and I know side effects aren't unusual, just looking for some reassurance really! I would of course phone the vet if it went on for more than a day or if he was vomiting or having seizures or anything, but he's just a bit sleepy and lacklustre. I'm such a worrier.

No worries, thats all normal. If you have any of the following you've got problems.

2 weeks back my cats got their shots. Phoebe often gets soft to runny poo from them (in addition to an occasional sneeze). But she had far worse symptoms this time. She got violent diarrhea, her ears and lips become bright red, her temperature was up, and then her eyes started to swell! Then her skin started to twitch on top of the muscle! She ended up at the ER and got treated with sterodes and anti-inflamitories. It was quite scary. She'll need to be 'premedicated' from now on they tell me. I guess its a shot of liquid bendryll about an hour or few before the other vacines.

My vet said any swelling or severe redness (we had both and more!) needs to be looked at promptly. Soft bowels and sneezing, and sleepiness is something to watch, but normal.

It's normal. Prego doesn't seem too affected by his vaccines, but when Polly got hers last year, she was pretty lethargic for a day or two. Even though they aren't really sick, their body thinks the vaccine is a real illness and acts accordingly.

I have a flu vaccination every year cos of respiratory problems and I know that I'm going to feel dizzy, nauseous and tired for a couple of days after, just because my immune system is reacting to the vaccine. I am pleased to say that Radar has just 'helped' me wash his bowl and feed him which is much more his usual behaviour, and he is now trying to climb up my legs which is all back to normal
Thank you for the reassurance, you know how it is when your kitty isn't acting as he does normally!

(He's now attacking my trousers *again*
) Thank goodness!

ETA: I know it's an odd time to feed a cat, shift work for us means he's on a slightly different schedule to the rest of the country

That's awful and must have been terrifying
I worry about everyone (2 legged and 4 legged) that is close to me so much, it's horrible to see your loved ones go through something like that
I have noticed that his ears are a bit red, but he is definitely feeling better now - running to things whereas earlier he looked almost arthritic. I will mention it to the vet before he has his next lot in a years time. As he's an indoor cat, if he had a really bad reaction I would consider not vaccinating every year as he's not at much risk.

My Pippin is allergic to vaccines and now requires a round of antibiotics and a steroid shot when he gets a vaccine.
His symptoms were severe lethargy, muscle spasms, cold ears and paws, and just looking pretty crummy in general. The vet diagnosed him with some sort of shock.
The shots and amoxil take care of it right away though.

The vet told me Quicksilver can't have her boosters until she stops sneezing and is better. I'm really worried for when she does have them. Lots of people tell there kittens have died when they have had their jabs and they were perfectly heathly. I'm espcally worried for her, because even though we have only had her a month, she has bee through so much and I don't want to loose her.

You're being a great parent - all worrying and stuff!

some cats do tend to have an adverse reaction to mixed vaccinations. Never fear, though. Your cat will be its bouncing, lovable self again in no time flat!

I remember when my baby girl got her distemper, feline leukemia and rabies all at once. She was sooo lethargic that night and into the next day. We called the vet and they said it can sometime happen and if she didn't snap out of it by the next morning, bring her in to be checked.
