Our 4 year old male cat Dude has been on a diet for the last year because he was quite over weight and was at risk of being diabetic later in life. Recently he has put on quite a bit of weight again but we're still sticking to his diet plan.
We think he is being fed somewhere else, we had this problem with previous cats where a neighbour had fed them. He isn't deprived of food and gets the amount he needs, but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't refuse food from other people.
My mum also suggested that he could possibly be going into people houses and actually stealing other cats food.
We can't really keep him inside because he is out a majority of the time and would make too much of a fuss.

We're thinking of making flyers saying "Please do not feed this cat" but i've heard that can't be very effective. He usually stays inside during late Autumn/Winter so it shouldn't be a problem then, but until then Does anyone else have any ideas?

[I was unsure where to put this topic, so if it is in the wrong forum I apologize.]

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
It's a possibility, because i remember the nextdoor neighbours to my parents used to put out a saucer of food in their garden. There were never any strays but they still did it, and my parents cat used to eat it and sometimes became sick if it was out there too long
My mum had to tell them to stop putting food out in the end.

Can you not knock on their doors and show them a picture of your cat and explain the situation just incase?.

oh heck, that is a difficult one. My Pepsi used to go into our neighbours house (about 5 houses away) and eat the dog food
I only found out, cos they told me. I said that they should shoo her away, I suggested to clap at her real loud to let her know she should´nt be there.
When I lived in the UK a cat called Elliot was always coming through our cat-flap to eat
and sleep
he wasnt bothered when I shooed him away, he´d be there on the bed the next day !!

Anyway. all I can suggest is have a word around with your neighbours to see if they have seen or heard anything, then, if you do find out whos feeing him, then you have to ask them not to.
Good Luck

thanks for the advice rosiemac & mooficat
i've already started telling neighbours not to feed him. i live in a cul-de-sac within a cul-de-sac so theres a high possibilty it is one of the people living here.
