A lady that I work with sets her alarm clock/radio so that it plays when they go away overnight so that it goes off and plays the radio for an hour twice while they're gone. She said she thinks the cat might like listening to the music instead of being in a totally quiet house for so long. Do you think they even pay attention to it?

We have a classics radio station playing night and day throughout the cattery. It seems to have an appeal for the cats. They are much more restless and bored without the radio on.

I tend to leave the radio on for mine when I am out - I have a new fascinations with leaving bird music on to keep them awake so they sleep at night rather than jump on me

Hmmm, that's a good idea, I think I'll try it. Maybe my boys could spend all day searching for the bird in the house and be nice and tired at night!

I think that mine prefer the radio. Actually, I leave the TV on low (they hear better than I do) and either leave it on Animal Planet or Cspan. I've noticed that my cats respond to some of the scenes on Animal Planet, and certain voices in the Senate will attract Joey's and Andy's attention; and they don't seem to have a party preference

Ours is quiet all night long till the clock radio goes off in the morning and then he's zooming through the house like a bullet. I think he likes the radio.

in a pile of open toed shoes!
I don't leave it on while I'm at work all day, but maybe if I left them alone for a few days I might set it to go on/off for a little....so they hear voices and don't feel so alone I guess.... but LuckyGirl would probably go charging into the bedroom & think it's breakfast time if she heard it go off!
She's SO used to my alarm radio going off every morning she wouldn't know what to do if it made noise at 5pm!!!

Mine love music. I play classical music while I read or do my crafts, and they seem to like it. They like blues, too, as long as it is the relaxing, smooth kind. Scooter seems to like Southern Culture On The Skids and Drive-By Truckers. Pepper likes female voices like Lucinda Williams and Emmylou Harris.
I had a stray that would come hang out while she was pregnant, and she would turn on the radio in the mornings. If it got bumped off the classic rock station, she would turn it off. I have some old pics somewhere of her smacking her paw on the buttons.

I'd love to see pictures of the cat turning on and off the radio!

I was emailing my DH and this is what he had to say about Frankie and radios/music. I thought it was cute.

It's a bit early to tell but, I think Frankie likes Miles Davis somewhat!
I've been playing "Kind of Blue" CD once in a while before you get home and
he goes and lays in the living room.....When I was playing the guitar a
little last night he came over and bit the whammy bar. Maybe he wanted me
to use it a little more?
