The first visit with the nurse went went well - though it was as much of a relief being able to wash my hair with some special antiseptic shampoo they gave me. I got rid of all the mats and stickiness and then she cleaned the bites and dressed it. We repeat the procedure tomorrow. And a piece of good news - my daughter is coming over tonight on the ferry for two nights, and then again next qweek. She can't do more as she is on house duty in her school, but it will be a huge relief. Thanks for hte vibes for my father - he is doing well, with two black eyes and huge bruises, but hte bleeding has stopped and he is breathing normally. My mother has a friend coming to stay for hte weekend, so she will not alone with her problem either. I am so glad about that. Now I have to sort out the feral cat, who is still in my bathroom - I have the number of an animal shelter whom I shall call this afternoon. This is his last chance as three vets now want to put him down, and I can't bear the stress of it - I can't blame him for what happened.

Poor Jenny, you've certainly had your share of stress lately, haven't you. I am sending lots of good vibes that it all works out OK for you and your father

Just heard from my daughter - she is coming over on the night ferry and can stay till Saturday! I am so relieved as tomorrow is going to be a terrible day. I cannot find anybody to take my feral, and the vet will put him down. I have spent an hour today begging the local SPA ( like SPCA or RSPCA) to take him but they and their foster families are still overflowing with kittens, and they agree he would need a special home. The pound would simply PTS him anyway. 3 vets and the mayor and the neighbours say I should put him down and I am at my wits end. If I let him go here, he will be shot by one of the neighbours, who are very concerned for me and for what has happened, and in all conscience I cannot let him go miles away as I do not know any TNR colonies or even if they exist - no one seems to know. I feel so that I have let him down so badly. My head hurts and I am very depressed.

Jenny, you certainly didn't let him down. You did everything you could for him, but certainly didn't expect for him to bite you. There is no way you could have foreseen that, or the unfortunate outcome. He will have a peaceful ending to his time here, instead of a harsh one.

I son't have any advice for you Jenny, but my thoughts are with you and Merlin, I know you did everything you could, and when it comes right down to it, your first priority is to your own little babies and you had to protect them, unfortunately your head got in the way
Sending you lots of hugs

IA. If you need me, just meow..
I echo Karen too.
You did everything you could to help this feral cat. You're the only one who didn't turn your back on him even when he bit you. You are a great person and he knows you did everything you could to give him peace when he needed it most. Be calm and rest assured that you are a wonderful person who gives her heart to ferals conditionally. You have my fullest respect.

Lots of stuff going on. When Tommie bit me I was in a similar situation as I knew no one would take him either. So he became the garage cat with outdoor privledges. My other cats-well 3 out of the 4 were ok but then Tommie got shot, leg amputated, then was diagnosed FeLV and PTS. If figure he has a good 11 months with me instead if being this outside stray. Could you have a pen contructed with access to the insie of one of your outbuillding that would have a pen also so your other cats could get used to him??? That could buy you some time. Good luck on your decision. Feel better soon and good to read your dad is doing better.

Jenny, no way have you let this guy down. You've done everything you can for him, and then some. It's sad, but you have nothing to beat yourself about. Please be gentle with yourself.

There's only so much a person can do, and you've gone above and beyond for the little guy. It's not your fault any more than it is his. But you do have to think of yourself and your fur-family first.

I can only echo what others have already said in this thread.
Thank you for doing all you have for him.

I'm really sorry you're having so much trouble with those bites
Sending vibes for your father as well. As for the feral.. you did everything you could. I like the idea that someone had of building him some kind of enclosure-but if that's not an option, then you really need to know that you did all you could. Like someone else said, you didn't know that he would bite you, and if no one will take him and you can't release him - well then there is nothing in your power that you can do-therefore it's not your fault-at all. You did your best-most other ppl wouldn't have even bothered trying to help them. Remember, we can't save them all, but the important thing is that you tried your best.

Jenny, I'm sorry to hear about your dad and your bites not healing as well as you had hoped.

As for Merlin, you've probably already done more for him in this short time than anyone else did in years. You have a difficult decision to make and I know you'll make the best decision for the circumstances. Don't beat yourself up - you can only do so much and the rest is in God's hands.
