We're going to be leaving Friday morning and coming home Saturday afternoon this weekend so I thought I'd buy one of those 5 compartment auto feeders to put his Friday night supper and Saturday morning breakfast in. Anyone have any luck using these auto feeders?

I just went and bought one so we could try it tonight and tomorrow to make sure it works for him before we leave on Friday. Keeping our fingers crossed that this will work for just overnight stays away from home.

i don't have one of the 5 compartment feeders, i wish i did though - stoli has a two compartment feeder with wind up timers. he still digs and digs and digs to try to get the food out though - pretty annoying in the middle of the night.

If you're only away for one or two days it's not necessary to use a feeder, you can just leave a larger portion of food in the dish. Or the neighbours can come in to feed the cat (I trade catsitting duties with my upstairs neighbours whenever one of us has to go somewhere.)
The cat will stop when he's full, won't he?

Some cats will stop eating when they're full and some won't. You can pretty much predict that by how he has eaten in the past.

Our cat eats whatever we put in his bowl till it's gone so I don't trust leaving a bunch of food for him. I doubt he'd eat it all at once but I bet he'd eat it all within a few hours and then would be starving the rest of the time. We plan on having someone stop by the house if we're gone for more than one night but for one night I think this automatic feeder will work good. We tried it last night by putting treats in it (cuz we had already fed him his evening food) and it opened up at 8:30 p.m. and it didn't take him long to notice it and get the treats.

I use a Petmate gravity feeder. It is much more efficient that way.
I can fill it up once a week and my kitties no longer go hungry.

Incindentially, whoever says that cats only love you for food is WRONG. I haven't physically fed them for a long time, but they love me still the same.

LOL, it is FREAKING annoying, but i love him all the same. Today I didn't need to use the automatic feeder because I wasn't going to be gone too long and I came home to a feeder half open with the food dish sticking out. I hope it's not broken. This darn cat will do anything for a morsel. (p.s. the feeder was empty to begin with)

sigh

That 5 serving automatic feeder worked great. We left on Friday morning at 8:30 and fed Frankie before we left and then the feeder served him his supper at 5:00 and breakfast at 5:00 Saturday morning. When we got home from our trip at 11:30 Saturday morning, the thing was empty and he was just fine. Nice to have this to keep him on his regular schedule.
