Our cat gave birth yesterday ( noone saw the birth ) I was relaxing on the bed with her and I saw the blood and wetness on the bottom so i knew she gave birth and i thought the kittens were outside but I found them under the bed later on ( I thought they were a sock) So there was 3 of them and im not sure if there is another one outside possibly... The cat was outside the whole day yesterday and only returned when i opened the door for her to come in. Is it possible she had more than 3 and maybe one of em didn't make it? Or can she be so careless as to actually forget one outside? I am asking because me and my brother heard little meows from outside and we searched but nothing came up. Here are some pics of the litter and the mom.

Also this is the first time ever taking care of kittens what should I do ? Feed the mom milk? Keep them in the dark and keep them warm i know that but what else

Hi, welcome to TCS!
Your new little family is so precious!

Our experts in this area will be along shortly to offer further advice. It's impossible for us to tell by viewing a photo of your cat and kittens whether or not there is a fourth kitten. I do wonder if there is a fourth if the Momcat may be more anxious to be wanting to out to retrieve her/him. Regardless, if I even suspected for a moment that there was another kitten outside, especially having specifically heard a kitten's voice, I'd sure be out there searching relentlessly!

Don't feed the Mom cat cow's milk, it will more than likely cause digestive problems. She should be eating a high-quality kitten food in both canned and dry varieties. Her litter box, food and water dishes should all be nearby the nest, but not close enough to it to make Momma uncomfortable and move the babies.

As for hearing a baby cry outside, the chances are good she had a baby out there since you heard one ... please look again and try to find this little one or it will die quickly. Do not let Momma outside - in fact, try to keep at least TWO closed doors between her and the outside until you can get her spayed, which you can do once the kittens are completely weaned, usually at around 6 to 8 weeks of age.

Welcome to TCS....mom should be fed a high quality kitten food...she will take care of feeding her kittens.

I have to agree with Gaye....your mom cat should not be allowed outside again...not only because she could bring in something from the outside that could be harmful to the kittens (such as fleas)..but also because she could get pregnant again within a few days of giving birth. Best thing is to set her up in a quiet room that is 2 doors away from the outside and make sure that she has her food, litter and water in that room. Remember...mom is on an indoor only vacation until she can be safely spayed once the kittens are weaned.
