My cat has been rubbing his head on all kinds of furniture - almost like he's scratching an itch - but it seems constant and on both sides of his head. Is this a symptom of ear mites? or some other health problem? Any information would be really appreciated.

Cats have scent glands located in their heads. When your cat rubs his head against furniture some of his scent is released and the furniture is marked as being part of his territory. Sometimes cats will scentmark an item this way over and over. All my cats have immediately rubbed their heads against anything new that has been brought into my home.

My cats do this, it's a love sign!

The glands on the sides of their mouths secrete their own special scent. WHen they rub on your or on furniture, what they are saying is, "YOU ARE MINE!". A great compliment from your kitty!

Some cats secrete more than others. My little KC rubs and drools so much when she shakes her head after a head-butt, she flings drool across the room.

My newest baby, Hamtaro, cannot get ENOUGH of rubbing his sweet little head everywhere. ESPECIALLY on my face at night. In the past week since I've adopted him, he has been on my face rubbing every single night, well into the wee hours. Quite a compliment and a sign of love.

What everyone else said, but, if it seems like the cat is constantly rubbing the sides of head on things, I would look in his ears to see if you see brown gunk. That would be a sign of ear mites.
