I've got an only cat.. Only 'cause I'm not even supposed to have any in my building. If it were up to me, I'd have a million.

I always think the same thing. I've always been a bird person myself, and Elmo (my only bird left, an 18 y/o queen of the roost) does not like competition. She used to squak at me like crazy when she would just see me over by Maya's (my turtle) aquarium cleaning it or something.

I only have one cat and only want one cat, because (and I don't feel this way anymore!) I didn't like cats. No real reason. My sister has one, and she has always been a mean cat, so I thought cats were stuck up and bratty. Then this baby kitten shows up at my porch, and never leaves, I feed her, bather her, and name her. But I never thought of her as more than a stray. Then she was gone for a week, and came back looking like she had been through heck. I knew right then and there that she was going to the vet, and coming right inside...forever. She's never been a stray since

Puppy is an only cat. The reasons are:
* We live in a small place
* It's enough work keeping one cat and one turtle!
* Puppy's a little off-kilter about other animals due to his mental condition. He was chill around Patches and Princess, even though they hated him and let him know frequently. Our neighbor's cat, however, was acting very friendly and wanting to say hello, but Puppy hissed at him. Getting another animal would be a very careful thing.

We've discussed (eventually) doing a foster arrangement with a small shelter, that way we can give the other cat back if Puppy decides to have an issue. We aren't yet sure why he's fine with some cats and not with others. Possibly a gender issue.

I/we would like to get another for our former feral as she was so used to other kitties being around, but since we hope/plan to move and prob. rent initially while we check out the area, it's just not feasible - I guess as long as you give them loving, etc. they will be okay? (In my mind, not as happy as if they had a playmate, but also in my mind is: she prob. wouldn't have survived) - we are dog people also and just can't see this former feral adapting to a dog in the house.... It's tough - but! hubby loves this kitty (drwool and all - lmao)

I got my kitten two months ago. Since having him I would love to get another. But, we go on vacation several times a year and I don't think my mother would be up for me bring two cats over. We may take him with us one of these times so flying with one would be easier then two. Also, this kitten has tried to escape several times and I am not sure I could take the stress of having to watch out for two cats everytime we leave the house (my young kids come in and out and are not always good about the door). Lastly, I have this fear (true or not) that litterbox avoidance happens more often when you have more then one cat. My sister had that problem (well, her cat did) for years and it was so awful for her. Actually the biggest reason I only have one cat is my DH probably would not go for getting another.
I have an only cat! Wouldn't have it any other way. But I do have a dog

I have just the one - I adopted her as an only cat because the shelter told me how scared she was of the other cats in there! She was a such a sweety with me that I didn't believe she was capable of hissing and growling - I fostered a kitten for a weekend to see how she went with it and saw a different side of her!

If I knew that eventually she'd get on with another cat, I'd get her a buddy today - but it's the thought of it never working out and spending the next 10 years with 2 miserable, warring or frightened cats that stops me!

I have only one, plus a dog. Truth is I never really considered myself much of cat person. My 'moe' came into to my life by accident. Last April a friend of mine found him along with 2 of his brothers abandoned in a back alley. They were only about 5 weeks at the time so she convinced me take one and she took the other two. Our intention was to raise the kittens, get them healthy and when they were older find suitable homes for them. Well by the time moe was old enough for adoption I just couldn't let him go. I never actually thought I would keep him. I just wanted him to have a chance at life but somehow he found his way into my heart and I just couldn't let him go. I've always had dogs so the cat thing is still pretty new to me but I'm learning and I don't for one second regret keeping him. Maybe someday I'll get another but for now my bank account says two pets is enough.

Oh and the other two kittens (my friend unfortunately wasn't able keep them) were both found really good homes and last I heard they were doing great.

I'm only adopting one kitten. Shes coming home on Saturday. If my allergies handle her extremely and my son isnt allergic, then I think I can get another in a year or so. In the meantime i'll stick with one.

I have 2 large dogs to care for also, and my wallet doesnt allow for an extra cat

I am uhhhhh not a cat person. That is to say, I think MY cat is fabulous, but everyone else's cat, well, it's like with kids. If they are yours you like them, if not, well, never mind. I do have two dogs, and I am more likely to like someone else's dog, although there are some dogs I can do without.

Brady prefers to be an only cat, at least that's what the Humane Society said. He supposedly prefers dogs, so that works. Hey, there has to be SOME place that cats can live if they want to be only cats, right?

I am allergic also, always thought so but the tests confirmed it, guess I've been in denial for years. So one cat and one dog, don't want to upset the balance.

I have only one cat, my girl Lusa. I'd love to have 2 cats, but the vet and food costs scare me. Lusa has URI issues, and my elderly dog has a heart condition that requires about $70 USD worth of meds a month. Add to that the cost of premium food for both pets...

I hope Santa Claus is good to us this year
