We use Revolution rather than Advantage. Also please DO NOT use any flea powders and especially no flea collars on your cat. Fleas collars can and have killed cats.

Over the counter medications and powders are often ineffective and can cause more harm than good.

The best use for a flea collar is to cut it up and put it in your vacuum. After each vacuuming, take the bag outdoors. Fleas usually jump on kitty, have their lunch and jump off in the carpets, upholstery, etc. to procreate. You will have to vacuum every day in order to get all them critters as they hatch. Some folks have used flea bombs but you must take the cat out of the house for several hours as well as the humans. I've never used anything like that myself but if you do a search on this site for "fleas" you'll find many, many threads with excellent advice.

i found a thread about diatomacious earth. the local feed store sells it. it does not say "food grade" on the package but it does say that its for use inside/outside and in pet sleeping areas to kill fleas and other pests. is it safe?

it also says "organic" which i think would mean the poison or anything else was not added to it.

i figured it out. the regular garden kind is safe for use in your house and around pets, its just not edible. the food grade is the kind you can add to their food and use for wormer. the pool kind is different from both of these and is toxic.
