You know Katie, I have had experiences like that!!! When my ex and I lived in Barstow, CA many moons ago, I was taking my two pooches to the vets and when we got out of the car to go inside, there was a rattlesnake sunning itself on the concrete step to go in!! That was before cell phones. BUT, across the street was a payphone. I ran over there and called. I didn't want anyone coming out and stepping on it!! Then I had scorpions a couple of times in our yard.........all I can saw is, EWWWWWWWWWW!!!

This is EXACTLY the reason I never want to visit the southwest! I am terrified of creepy crawlies, especially those that have poisonous bites!!!!

Flagstaff is like an entirely different world from what one imagines Arizona to be like. It's more like Colorado or something. It' beautiful there. I've been to Arizona quite a few times, although it's more like just driving through. However, I love the beauty of Flagstaff. In the winter the mountains are all snowy and beautiful. Even the desert area's of Arizona are beautiful It's a beautiful state.

Arizona is prone to t-storms this time of year. 2 years ago, I was at North Rim of Grand Canyon for an incredible evening of storms. There were about 5 cells of t-storms going off at once! There were high winds and driving rains. But, being from the Eastern Sierra, I was well prepared with hats, gloves, etc. The day before had been a scorcher and the next day, Grand Canyon's trails were closed and some unfortunate person had apparently been washed off the trail during the big storm, and one of the ranger's trailers was ruined by a falling tree. But it was exciting!!! I LOVE Arizona!!
As for the southern part, just rent "The Three Amigos" and you'll get an excellent idea of what you'll see!!
