Hello!
I currently have a 5 month old kitten at home who is driving me absolutly bonkers and I have a feeling its because he is bored. So I finally made the decision to get him a playmate. I went to this private rescue orginization and fell in love with this GORGEOUS grey kitten and shes going to be coming home on tuesday. My question is, do I need to get two of everything? Like two litter boxs and two water/food bowls? Or will they be able to share everything? Also, do you think there will terrirotial problems? Im scared Adam(My 5 month old kitten) won't appreciate another kitten in the home. Or maybe it might be easier seeing as though hes still a baby...

Congrats on your new little kitten. I can't wait to see pics! With two, it's up to you whether you get another litter box. They could share the same one and you would be fine at least while they are kittens (and their business isn't so big yet). I would get a separate food dish at least, they can share a water bowl. Adam won't appreciate another kitten at first but he will take to him/her in no time at all! I brought in kittens for my Michoud who is 14 months old and it only took him 2 days before he fell in love with the kittens. Just wait, Adam will be very happy you brought him a friend.

Well I think your first concern would be that both are spayed/neutered. At 5 months, the female could get prego either by your boy or a cat outside. I wouldn't even bring her in the house until she is spayed if the boy isn't yet.

That being said, you only should have two litterboxes, the rest they can probably share. Expect hissing and growling and "fighting" at first. Let them do that too because they will need to work out alpha status. As long as no blood is being shed, that is the only time you need to worry.

Good luck! I wouldn't expect them to love each other at first, but they should be good friends in no time.

As long as they both are neutered/spayed, they will be fine. If they are not done, get it done NOW, especially if you have opposite sex. 5 month old kittens can breed.

You don't need two sets of bowls - they will share. You might want to get an extra pan but just see how they do with one first. If there are problems, then fill the other pan.

Well, I have a 4 month old male cat and he was lonly too and so we got him a female kitten(2 months old) to play with. He was excited and went right up to her to play but SHE was the one who did the fighting. LOL. Poor boy, he was such a friendly kitten and he was just curious and wanted to play. He tried a couple more times to approach her and eventually gave up. Later, on the drive home he started turning mean and attacking her back because he was sick of getting beat up by a girl that was half his age.(heehee)

It took a couple weeks for them to like each other. It started out with them chasing each other around the house trying to kill one another and ended up with them chasing each other around the house trying to catch each other and have a playful wrestling match. LOL! They ended up being sooo cute together. I have some pics of them when we first got them. Let me go dig em up and I will show them to you.

In this pic, they hated each other. I just put them together while they were sleeping so I could take a cute pic.(and...as you can see, it turned our pretty cute.)

In this pick, they love each other.LOL! I have just given the baby girl a bath and the boy was helping her dry off so she didn't catch a cold! How cute!

The pics were taking after I had already had them a couple weeks and, as you can see by the dates, they make a fast change in those last couple days.

Here is my recommendation...first, when you bring home your new girl, you should set her up in a separate room until she has been seen by your vet. Even if this kitten was kept in a foster home..the stress of moving can bring on a latent URI (cat cold) that can be contagious. So it's best to have her seperated for first few days....if you want to set her up with her own dishes..you may do that....my cats actually prefer to have seperate feeding bowls (inexpensive soup bowls I bought) but share a water bowl (large glass baking dish). The recommendation for litterboxes is 1 per cat plus 1 extra. This helps in that each kitten has their "own" litterbox (although my cats actually share a litterbox with no problems). Once your girl gets the vets OK....introduce them while you are at home....hissy, running, romping are normal reactions. Give them time and space to get familiar with each other and your new girl to get adjusted to her new home.
