I think this is a Thai superstition - having a cat with all white socks is lucky. I think it is to do with feet being dirty.

Hey, Lorie, I don't know about that! I think they'd gossip, if they could! They're so sure of superiority. We're just the hired help. I have had a black cat, sometimes 2, ever since I got married. I don't have one now. They are so elegant and beautiful; no wonder they're conceited! Mine liked to pose; I'm absolutely sure of it!
My aunt from Scotland rescued a black cat, and named it Lucky, because of the Scottish superstition, which is the opposite of ours.
