I have 3-3 week old kittens and when they fall asleep sometimes it takes forever to wake them up. When I pick up their heads they just fall back down as if they were dead. I actually picked up and kitten the other day and it didn't wake up at all! It finally opened it's eyes when I put it back down.

The first time this happened(with my last litter) I completely freaked out! I had noticed the mama licking it like crazy and meowing so I when to see what was wrong. When I picked the kitten up it didn't move, I actually even went so far as to gently shake it. I thought for sure it was dead. I took the kitten and ran for the phone to call my hubby. He picked up his phone and I yelled, " Honey, Tiny(the kitten) is de......" I didn't get to finish my sentence because tight then Tiny opened his eyes and looked at me as if to say "Do you mind lowering your voice, I'm trying to sleep. Gosh!"

I apologized to my husband and said "nevermind" and hung up the phone. To this day my hubby still makes fun of me for freaking out. Heehee!

Anyways, I have a video of it on my phone, maybe I can figure out how to get it on here to show you guys, it's REALLY funny.

Sooo, has that ever happened to any of you??? Or am I the only one here with weird kittens?

oh man what a scare! they must be sound sleepers!

We had a 6-8 week old kitten my mom bought from a breeder a long time ago (ya I know...) and she slept so soundly that you could pick her up and woggle her body around in her hands and she would never wake up. It's was so funny hehe.

At 3 weeks old, you might not want to disturb them when they are sleeping ... especially if they are so deeply sleeping. If you are concerned, just check to make sure they are breathing, but waking them up is not good for them, again, especially so when they are sleeping so deeply. Being a kitten takes a lot of energy (ever notice how kittens seem to be so warm???) and their little metabolisms are burning at high speed. They need lots of good restful sleep to regenerate and replenish their resources.
