Hello everyone!

I just have a couple questions about weaning if you dont mind.

First of all, the kittens are currently 3 and 1/2 weeks old, I know its too soon now, but I want to be prepared. When should we begin to wean them?
And what is the best way to go about weaning?

one more question, the kittens are pretty chubby, especially one of them... hes pretty fat. Is this normal because they arent that active yet? or should we be concerned?

thanks so much!!!

They will change a lot in size when they are growing and the roundest now can be the thinnest in a couple of weeks. That is nothing to worry about as long as no one is too thin.
About weaning they will soon begin to be curious about mamas food.
I had a dry high quality kitten food allways awailable for the mother and I wet a little amout with home made chickenbullion or water for the kittens so it got soft. There is also wet kittenfood to buy. Boild chicken in small small pieces is good when they are i little bit older.
The kitten food is also good for the mama since she need more energy as long as she is feeding them. She will teach them how to eat.
When they are around six weeks they should all eat good on their own but they stil need mamas milk. Around twelve weeks they should be completely weaned.
As long as you have the mother around there is not a lot you have to do except providing kitten food an fresh water.

I have always left dry food out for mom along with water. By about 5 weeks the kittens were eating the dry and wet food, though not all the time. They are just about 7 weeks now (how time flies!!) and they are all eating wet and dry and drinking water just fine. They still nurse a bit but not much. I guess mom is getting tired of that!
