If you are looking for new furniture and have a cat with claws, try Microfiber. I have only one upholstered piece of furniture in my house and two cats. One has destroyed two of the three cat trees that I have in teh house. I mean taking the carpet and sisal off to the bare wood. The destructo-cat (indy) doesn't seem to even be interested in my couch and Kasey who isn't as destructive just ocassionally scratches at one corner and I can't see any damage.

Also the cat hair comes out and off the microfiber really easily.

I've noticed that with our microfiber couch as well. Fortunately RUby has been trained not to scrath, but Shannon sometime has to to get up to the top and I've seen no damage so far!

I figured this would give people an option besides Declawing. I am so against that I'd rather get all new furniture and stuff before I'd do that to my kitties. I have decided only to declaw if there was an injury that required it.

I just had to wrap the back and side of my couch in a foil! I got a new couch a couple months ago, The main fabric is not a problem, but the side has leather I guess, and I keep seeing one of the cats scatrching it, and its already damaged a little, I was so mad. So I just wrapped it up, hopefully this works, I hear it does, supposedly cats hate the feel of the foil. But it is an eye sore, luckily its just on the back and side, you cant see it.

Microfiber (or microsuede) is great for cat owners! My cats never want to scratch it and it's very easy to scoop the hair off of it!
