I know how cheap it is here but I still complain. Our public transit is terrible most places compared to what you all have there so gas prices being high really makes a big deal over here.

Mackenzie, I filled up at class in E-ville...excited to pay $2.39....only to go to Fmnt as soon as I got home from class to discover it's $2.32 a gallon there! Darn it!!!
That's OK. I filled up on Tuesday & my tank is empty again. It's only been 2 whole days & I've used one tank of gas....

My brother says gas is still $3.30 a gall on in Chicago, so he drives out to La Porte, IN to get gas for $.70 or more a gallon cheaper. He says it's worth driving the hour to get gas...it's still cheaper!

I really hate to be the bearer of bad news. I believe that the reason gas prices are down is due to the upcomming mid-year elections in less than two months. The oil companies want to keep the Republicans in office since they receive big tax breaks and other goodies from them. Now, the Republicans can say "See what we have done, gas prices are lower" and hope that you will reelect them. My prediction is that they will go up again shortly after the elections. The justification will be some old lame excuse as always.

If you are curious, I am a registered Republican.

Plus, we drive ridiculously large cars here in America.

That is soooo true! But I am guilty of driving myself the 30 minutes to work and the 30 minutes home from work in the F150 with a V8 engine that is a gas hog instead of my little Honda Prelude that I can drive for a week and a half on one tank.....

I agree that a lot of people do drive larger sized cars in the US....but I personally do not. I wouldn't want to eithor- I can bairly afford gas as it is- I can't imagine how much more money I would be throwing away to put gas in a gas guzzling vehicle- it makes no sense financially for me. So while there are some who do have larger cars, many people do not. A lot of my friends and family have traded in their larger vehicles for smaller, more fuel efficient ones. Do you by chance have any of those synergy cars and flexfuel in your state??? I wish we had that in Memphis- there is nothing like that here unfortunately. So even for those who have bought the flexfuel cars- they can't buy the more efficient fuel here- I think it's a rip off. Sometimes, when I'm at Colin's hose, and Colin & I want to go get a bite to eat or have a small errand to run, we will take his motorcycle instead of using his truck or my car- it saves a lot of gas!

Do you mean like E85? I live in Illinois, so ethanol is big here. But your milage isn't quite as good with E85, and it't only marginally cheaper, so in terms of dollars per mile you don't really save anything; in fact, it may cost more.

I don't drive a big car either. I'd sure hate to have to spend $60 to fill up my tank. When gas prices go up, it doesn't really effect us too much, as both DH and I drive small cars. We do have an old rust bucket of a pickup but we only use it for hauling stuff, stuff that we can't do with a Beetle or TT.

Yeah, the E85 fuel! I forgot what it was called. I have heard the same thing about the price and efficiency of it as well, so maybe that's why Memphis doesn't have it yet...who knows lol! I guess at this point, there really isn't any good alternative yet huh? I definitely feel ya on the big car thing! I wouldn't want to spend $60 to fill up my tank eithor. Today I found gas for $2.39 - (which is really $2.40- most ppl forget to round up and add the 9/10ths to the prices.) I put $20 in...and while it didn't fill it up all the way (my tank was about 1/4 full.) it put a good amount in there- definitely more than the last time i filled up!
Colin has a truck- we also use it to haul stuff- he is always building things in his spare time, so having a truck is really a necessity, especially in the South. I have a Mercury Sable...it's gets decient gas milage...but not as great as I would like. Sometimes we use his motorcycle to run errands and go out if we don't have to bring anything back with us- it really saves on gas!

Gas here is about .84/litre, but if you drive 20 minutes away its .78/litre. Currently in Tyendinaga (wherever that is) it is 63.9/litre. I have no idea where that is though, I was just looking on the Ontario Gas Prices website.

We only have it here because we're Illinois...the corn state! E85 is more prevalent in the midwest where corn in grown. But even here, only like 3 gas stations in my town even have it.

It costs me about $30 to fill up my tank with the midgrade (regular not E85). I get about 28 miles per gallon in town, which is not too bad.

Parking at my work, though, that's another story!

Gas is down to 2:21 here. I'm actually going places now. Instead of just back and forth to work.
