My friend Kyla, who lives in Annapolis MD, rescued a new kitten! Her friend Ann, who is a lawyer, was talking to a preist about a case and in the process learned about a stray kitten who the priest had been feeding. Since Kyla had recently put her previous cat to sleep because of cancer
Ann asked her if she wanted the kitten. At first Kyla was hesitant because it was still a little soon, but once she met the kitten, it was love
.

The kitten is a female grey and white shorthair, approximately 2 or three months old. She was taken to the vet and diagnosed with a respiratory infection and ear mites, was tested for FIV/FeLV (negative!
) and is thin from being out on the streets. Kyla will get the kitten spayed. What is the normal age for spaying kittens btw?

My friend hasn't owned a kitten in a while and has never owned one that used to be a stray (I've never owned a kitten at all, only adult cats). Any kitten advice would be appreciated!

As soon as her respiratory infection is gone and she is of a healthy weight she can be spayed. If the vet says anything about waiting until 6 months then please find a new vet, that is very old fashioned advice.

Other advice I have is to feed her a good quality wet and dry kitten food from the pet store (not the grocery store). Get her lots of toys and tings to scratch on so she doesn't get your furniture and have fun!

She can be spayed as early as 8 weeks of age...your friend may want to ask around to find a vet who will spay her as early as possible once she is over her URI.
