Has anyone experienced this? My cat is around 8 years old, a rag doll breed. He's pretty round; doesn't get much exercise. But, just in the last few weeks he seems to be weeping brownish black sort of goo. Sort of like the normal "sleepy" stuff all animals get in their eyes, but it's this really dark brownish color. Should I be worried? Should I call a vet? He doesn't experience any other symptoms or seem to be sick.

If it was me and as its a new thing happening with the discharge I would have a vet check it out. It might be the start of a eye infection and its best to treat it before it gets bad.

I agree about the vet if it is a new condition. But my Wellington and Persil have always had brown matter at the corners of their eyes, which I clean off each day. Wellington also often has a dirty nose. I asked my vet and he said that it was very common and nothing to worry about, and occurred more in white cats than others.

ahhh glad to see i am not alone. kirra's eyes and nose are always runny, i have to take a wet cotton ball daily to her and the vets never seemed worried (her regular one nor the one that spayed her). I figured it could be a normal thing but i had only really seen persians with that problem and kirra is definatly not a persian lol.
